I target multiples, and then set my range so that I can hit them with missiles, but they are not doing much damage to me. Then the one I set the range on dies and I am dead in space for a few moments until I notice this and reset my range to another ship.
Sometimes I dont always see this until the enemy are on me.
Whats alternaive? How can I keep my ship powered and moving... Is there any kind of Avoidance Manouver that I am missing? ---------------------------------------------- Life - Don't tell me about Life - Marvin |

hmmmmmmm...i wonder if tags work without a gang. It would be nice to be able to set range on the enemy you destroy LAST.
i do this currently by setting range to the first target i've locked (AND DE LOCK) that target, freeing up a targetting slot.
targeting skill helps...at lvl4 i can target 6 enemies and have range set to the 7th unlocked enemy ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

Okay, yeah I see your point. Target the first bad guy, then set the range, then target the others and un-lock him to free up a target for the next bad guy.
Sounds like a plan.
Currently I am working with 5 possible target locks, which suits me fine as I only have 4 heavy launchers - the 5th slot is my defenders... WHich it has to be said dont always seem to defend that well.. :-( ---------------------------------------------- Life - Don't tell me about Life - Marvin |

Yup thats the way to go. Try and pick the nearest or fastest rat. That way the others will always be furthest off. If another overtakes you can always switch. The real difficulty comes when your mates shoot your rat.
While orbiting a rat in a cloud of about 20 my wingman shot my rat. The only keeping me alive was speed. Coming to a complete standstill in an enemy fleet stings.

or just double click in space away from the rats and try and regulate ya speed to keep range. Tis wot i do thou i am using torps and cruise that have a far greater range than hvy missiles (i assume ur flying a caracal with 5 launchers).
Just so u know, hvy missiles have a range of approx 50km, not including ur cruiser skill which increase flight time by 10%. so if u can stay 50km or so from the targets u should be ok

That is very annoying. It could not be that hard for CCP to put in a option so that if you have multi targets locked and are following/orbiting at a set distance when that target dies it should automaticly apply the same distance settings to the next target you locked till all locket targets are dead. Weapons should be able to auto swtich targets when one is killed instead of have to turn them on again. ------------------------------------- You are all worthless, and weak.

If you want that much automation, you might as well as for a "Kill Badguys" button. =)
You just have to keep an eye on what you're doing, and issue new orders as things come up. Learning to navigate manually instead of using the set manuevers will give you more flexability in combat. Often you'll need to keep a certain bad guy in range, but need to orbit him in a specific direction to avoid someone else. You can do this, but you'll need to navigate manually to pull it off.

well, that "TAG" command would help coordinate the "orbit item" so noone get's punked in a gang.
I'm going to test right now whether i can see my own tags outside of a gang...bugger, didn't work ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

The problem is when you have 3 rats in front of you, say at 20km, if you target one the two others will come closer like 15km and the last will take his time to come or just stay there at 20km.
So you need to keep this in mind and it can help you because only 2 will fire at you at the beginning of the fight. If you don't pay attention to this of course the 2 others will fire at you while you are coming close to the third instead of fighting them.
Also I prefer orbiting because this way my ship keeps moving but I don't think it matters that much.

they did. it went bye bye in exodus patch...we haven't a clue whether they consider it a "serious bug", a "feature", "a low priority cosmetic bug", "a slight oversight" or a "a chocolate souffle"
personally, i think it's another time-sink. they figured we were exploiting the feature so we could auto-travel to the loot container, thus saving time. eeek ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |
