Shield Upgrades has the following description:
'Skill at installing shield upgrades e.g. shield extenders and shield rechargers. 5% reduction in shield upgrade powergrid needs.'
This is a pretty useful fitting skill for Shield-tanked ships, and indeed I have some fits that really rely on having this skill @V to squeeze in as much tank as possible.
So I've recently decided to branch out of my Caldari-centric shield-tanked missile-ship (i.e. what 80% of the player-base uses) paradigm. So I've been dutifully skilling Armor on my main...
Only to find that there is no equivalent Armor fitting skill?!
Is this an oversight? Or is it just one of the things that continues to the reinforce the Shield > Armor metagame? |

No. Shield and armor never meant to be the same. But yes, there's no equivalent skill for armor, and it isn't needed anyway. However as armor tank requires a lot of power grid, you'll need as good fitting skills as possible (i personally use a L4 mission setup which require both AWU5 and Hybrid weapon rigging to 5 to fit without implants). Traditional armor tanking races, Gallente and Amarr, have generous amount of power grid on their ships to partially offset that. |

There are quire a few balancing factors between armor and shield, but this is something I've never understood. |

The only thing that comes to mind would be weapon upgrades and advanced weapon upgrades decreasing the pg needed for turrets. This allows you to fit the standard turret based armor gallente or amarr hull properly. So rather than a mechanic fitting skill specific to armor upgrades (plates) I am going to say they put the skill into gunnery, where the majority of armor ships are fitting turrets with a few exceptions. Their effort to keep them seperate. I dont think missiles have a fitting skill for powerfgrid, because they rely on cpu more? Weapon upgrades also help fitting turret shield fits, shield cane with dual LSE. It makes it less tight along with shield upgrade. My logical guess, ps I just woke up. |

According to the skill description: Weapon Upgrades affects turrets, launchers and smartbombs - reduces CPU need. Advanced Weapon Upgrades affects turrets and launchers (and needs WU V as a prerequisite) - reduces powergrid need.
These skills aren't specific for typical armor tanked ships. |

GǪthen again, the equivalent skill for armour would be one that reduces CPU need. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥
