Alright so i was just thinking, what if we could paint our ships like one can paint cars in forza motorsport 3?
I think it would be amazing to see the kind of war paint people could think up.
just my thought.

Certainly would be amazing, if EVE wasn't EVE but some silly tiny smallish diminutive MOG where the server will never be forced to, say, manage and deliver like 200 paintjobs at once (Jita 4-4 anyone?).
But in real EVE and real world, with real internet, it would sux big time. Even if paintjobs were locally stored in client cache as portraits used to be, paintjob textures would eat up HD at an amazing pace, and updating them prior to launching the client would make loading times something to rate in the scale of "going for a pee and a poo while the bloody game loads".
Put in short, this is EVE, and EVE is BIG, and what works in small games usually is imposible to deliver in a bigger scale.

As others have said its a bad idea. It is also in the commonly proposed idea's thread that is at the top of this forum.
In addition to the hello kitty kestrel being a good reason not to have it. See the dev response to this idea (post 12) Paint my ship Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

Well, the fail-human reasons are implicit. Swastikas, genitals and such would be the lesser of trouble once failed human beings began painting "F**K YOU!!" all over their ships, and not necessarily in English...
It's a pity because I would love to put a nice noseart on my ship, though.

One option is to get painting sets as in Homeworld. Each factions could have a set of paints and you could choose your prefered one.

AHH, but there could be a way around that. A completely custom paint job? Yeah, it would eat resources like a hog. But, have it like Star Trek Online (only with more options), where there are only certain parts that can be colored, in certain patterns, in certain colors. Then its just a number game. instead of an entire model skin being passed to and fro, it would simply be a handful of numbers. Sending a message in local would take up more bandwidth. ____ Asa Tru

I would satisfy just to get corp logo to my ship. Also I have mentioned it before but there could be color/pattern schemes that players can put on their ships if they like.
CEO desings the ship pattern and color from pre-defied color/patterns like corp logo.
Then players can apply that pattern/color scheme to their ships as an option. Then each corp / alliances could have their own colorscheme that makes them standout from other, if they want to.
Wow has tabards. Tabula Rasa had colors you could put on our armor. Other MMO's have also similar system. Eve doesn't.
There is no need for Hellokitty logos and pink colors and there wont be any of them unless CCP says so.
Roses are #FF0000, Violets are ##0000FF, all my base are belong to you... |
