Edited by: Loka on 03/02/2005 13:01:21 Megathron is the best looking ship in space and its the hardest to fly. I think that are two points which let me fly them again and again and again.
Megathron with a good setup, a good pilot and HIGH skills is rocking hard.
but all other BS with avarage common setups, with avarage pilots and decent skills still wil perform as good. Thats the problem.
I think the megathron should be the referenz for all other BS for ballance.
Easiest way: Ship can tank -> ship cant kill any other tanked BS -> crap firepower
Ship can dish out insane dmg -> shouldnt be able to tank
Ship has decent tank -> also decent firepower
Tell me any other BS than the Megathron who must follow this rules? Raven? Apoc? Geddon? Tempest probably the neares? _____________________________________ Dead or Alive

Anything bigger then a frig can be made into a badass ship.
Look at PIE, their commanders are flying around in the worst cruiser there is, and still pwning anything they can find. Fedaykin Naib and Siddy are both in tempests, and pulling it off very well.
Only an utter Moron couldn't see the strengths of the Domi, do I really have to include that in an already long winded post?
A thron at point blank range with a raven a MUCH bigger shot of coming out alive, then any other BS.
Yes, Gallente is the most balanced race of them all. Why change that?
Amarr-uber Caldari-³berest Minmatar-Prolly very uber now
So, I haven't seen many Pie flying around in Exequorors. Or perhaps you meant the worst PvP cruisers? Erm... Scythe?
You'd have trouble... Thought everybody in EVE already knew we only fly Amarr ships, obviously not

Wich amarr cruiser are you talking about exactly? The only amarr cruisers that suck are the arbitrator and the augoror.
And plz include the dominix's strengths in your next post cos i really have no idea what they are. If you were gonna say it was drones... The main objective of drones is to do dmg, just like missiles/turrets etc... Whats the point if everybody else can do it better? (and dont forget that to use 15 drones you need pretty uber skills).

Another raven, an EW scorp... The thing is is that fights never start at a mega's optimal, they usualy start around 20km in wich case any other ship would do a better job than a megathron (probably even a dom too).

Edited by: Lameth on 03/02/2005 17:07:03 Arbitrator is the so called "worthless" ship im refering to yes.
Set up like a Proper Dominix.
Heard of a PIE member who killed of a Tempest (back in the day) with one of these. 2 turret hardpoints, and yet he managed to pull it off. I wonder if he used the big drone bay to do it?
For a Domi; Drones and energy vamps. Throw in a RCU 2 or faction one. 15 drones isn't hard at all to use. 1-2 mill SP's.
That's 1,5 months skilling. And that's nothing for a 10+ SP character, if it means maxing out a skill tree.
And yes, I have a similar setup for a PvP Apoc. 2 Heavy Diminshing Nos, 1 Energy Neut, 1 L SB, 4 Mega Pulse 2's.
Since both raven and thron are close combat ships, this is a good way to set up a defencive Ship. Rely on the fact that they will come to you. Works great in fleet battles

On a side note I would love to see a cloak bonus for the megatron, hehe a cloaked Blasterthron with no locking penalty

Edited by: Pottsey on 03/02/2005 17:12:03 ôAnd plz include the dominix's strengths in your next post cos i really have no idea what they are.ö It makes the best passive tank with the fastest shield recharge in game so tough that a Scorpion cannot hurt it 1v1 and with full T2 items a Raven could not hurt it 1v1 but some of the needed T2 items are not out so the Raven can do about 50 to 70 damage per second as it stands now.
Compared to other ships itÆs a very flexible ship overall. It might not excel in much but it can do just about anything. I love my Dominix for PvE.

Originally by: Manyara How many times must i see this topic? Gallente ships are probably the best balanced in the game. Short range, uber damage. You get in close, you die. easy. The hard part for the gallete pilot is getting close. you have to be 10k off to web, and blasters on a frig and cruiser dont hit above 5k. When they hit though, boy do they hit. get too close to a thorax, taranis or deimos at you peril.
Balance is the key word here. at one extreme you have gallente, not particularly fast (save the ranis) but hard hitting up close. then their total opposite. Minmatar, long range, fast moving, and now pretty hard hitting (thanx to the arty boost in the patch) but without a multitude of tracking computers, cant hit squat up close.
At the end of the day people, its mainly about who lands in who's optimum, which is where tactics come in....
end spiel.
I dont know if anyone has said this before, im not bothering in reading all this post
To the guy im quoting: short range, uber dmg, wrong. blaster does less than 10% more dmg than the rest of guns. that's not uber. specialy when you have to sacrifice so many things. You comparing gallente with minmatar ffs. now do the same with megapulses.
To the guy who started the post. Go and fly a megathron. You need twice skill points and ability to kill anything in one than with an apoc or raven.

I almost went blind from reading this, so let me light my torch ;)
Gallente Battleship / Rank 8 / SP: 2048000 (~35-45 days just for lvl5) Drone Interfacing / Rank 5 / SP: 1280000 (~20-25 days just for lvl5) Drones / Rank 1 / SP: 256000
Those are the base skills you would need to use 15 drones in a Dominix... looks like about ~3.5 million SP to me, and well over 2 months training (and that's with all +3 implants and Adv. Learning to lvl4)
And if you really want to use them effectively, you'll need these too. Heavy Drone Operation / Rank 5 / SP: 1280000 (another ~20-25 days to master lvl5) Scout Drone Operation / Rank 1 / SP: 256000
That's over 3.5 (4.75 million SP if you actually want them to hurt) million SP to master a secondary weapon (at best) system. Not even counting all the tertiary skills it took to get there. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone, but that's not 'easy' training m8.
Just to show you have no idea what so ever about Gallente ships, and the mass amounts of skills needed to pilot them effectively, versus other races.

Use 14 then and save yourself the trouble.
Specialization is all about devothing that much time into "one" area.
I have 5mill SP's in Lasers, and I have only devoted one third of my time in that area.
There are alot of ppl out there with 20mill SP's +
That's where the really good pilots are

Why would anyone specialize in drones when they could specialize in lasers?

Edited by: Selim on 04/02/2005 08:31:07 I must repeat that the megathron is fine in principle. People only started complaining about it since the dawn of the gankageddon.
The thing is with the Megathron... a close-range Tempest has all the same problems except it has a bit less cap problems but also less damage and tracking, and essentially 4 less heavy drones to use. 4 heavy drones is, what, 50 damage a second? Thats alot for a secondary weapon that doesn't take up a slot...
I think the Megathron COULD use an extra K or two powergrid, but the tempest could use it, too... but cap? No. Blaster ships are supposed to have cap problems, its a fair tradeoff for damage and tracking. This is not to say I think the megathron is viable right now. I just think its fine the way it is -- its everything around it that has outclassed it.
Sadly, the gankageddon has nonetheless rendered the blasterthron obsolete. I'm more of the opinion that the former needs to be removed from the throne, rather than creating a second throne for the latter.

Well said. However Neon, I suspect you have ridiculously high Gunnery skills, Navigation, Engineering, Electronics and Mechanics.
You would still have probs with fitting Ions or Neutrons eh? So you probably use tech 2 electrons due to grid constraints.
It is just the effort in skill time is a lot longer for the Mega.
I do agree though. Use your B.R.I.A.N (thats him). Pick your fights if you can, use intel to the full and hold a surprise or 2 back for the enemy. Ie. don't always go for the predictable set up. If people know your set up then they know how to counter it.

How about amarr be forced to use "brains" and we can happily warp in, gank and warp out, without any of the fancy stuff, like scanning, mwding, etc? Reverse tables?
Using brains is not about balance, look at the chess, you have 2 sides, same amount of chess pieces, then you use brains. Thats ballance. Not this "gallente are supposed to be worse" crap. --

IMHO all ships will be balanced, if you see them ALL race-ships in fleet-battles AND hunting. Perhaps missle-nerf and carriers will help.
