Hi.
I've just completed Research Project Management to 5 for max R&D agents. I've got the top Caldari agents open. And I'm grinding Amarr standings to open up more agents.
I'm hoping someone can tell me what's currently the best cores to research. I currently have 20+ mill SP in science so I can use and research everything.
I read somewhere that a decent researcher can be pretty much self sufficient. So how can I yield the best income every month from a skilled researcher?
Cheers all

That's an interesting little tool, thanks. Is it accurate and up to date by any chance.

Have you considered finding out what ones sell for the most money?

What I'd like to know is; where do you get Caldari starship engineering datacores?
It seems that you can't get them from Caldari datacore agents, so...?

Profit on one agent is: "Number of datacores" * "price of datacore type". You just have to see this 2 variables for each datacore. In general, if you don't have any standings or skill problems, "Number of datacores" is almost the same for every datacore (+- 2/day). So you can just check the second variable "price of datacore type", which is very easy to do (Jita, check prices).

I get mine from Sakkatokka Limsen (Silen III - Moon 9 - Lai Dai Corporation Research Center)
For a list of more go to EVE Agents, set the Research Skill to Caldari Starship Engineering and click Search.

I found that Mechanical Engineering is used in just about everything, and usually sell for a pretty high price.

The pretty high price isn't exactly true. The rest is true. They are used a lot so you can sell high volumes very fast. The problem is that there are lots of people producing them, so their price isn't really that high. It's "stable".
For example, right now you can get almost twice the profits (+-70% more) if you produce "Datacore - Nuclear Physics" instead.

Edited by: Zircalla on 18/03/2011 16:15:50 MechE datacores are not bad (~250k right now), but mostly because they are a lot less cyclic (at least over the last couple of years) than some of the other datacores. As a relative noob, I trained up HEP skill to 5, due to the huge money on those datacores at the time. They are now in the tank (~100k) compared to their highs a while back (~400k).
Advice - train a couple of sci skills up to level 4, including MechE, and switch research as it warrants. I now run a mix of MechE, MSE, NP, and HEP - partly for profit and partly because they relate to some of the invention I do.
Starship engineering has historically paid crap - right now, Amarr ~100k, Caldari ~70k, Gallente ~80k, and Minmatar is ~275k (very rough numbers). I have no idea why Minnie is up right now, but I will make and sell/use them until the price drops. My agents that I use are now determined partly by their flexibility....

Somewhat ironically I did this process by hand 3 days ago - somewhat reassuringly this tool came up with the same answer

If you're have one char, ofcourse focus on one particular type of research. If you have multiple, diversify. Chances are, you won't be picking them up after a while. Because, you do need to calculate the costs of them in your invention/production chain. If you can't make this chain profitable without free cores, then check your math.

Minmatar starship eng datacores are so much cause most of the best agents are in lowsec and very spread out
