I'm about to get into a carrier, and I'm wondering which fighter drone to use. I do understand that it depends on the circumstances, but lets say I'm flying headfirst into the unknown (stupid, I know.)
I'm considering the firbolg as I've heard it deals most damage, or the minmatar variant which I don't know how to spell.
If there is anyone out there who have any pros and cons for the fighters, please share :)

Carriers are fleet/corp ships really. Soloing or just roaming around low/null sec alone with a carrier is asking for trouble.
Flying into the unknown will result in a close call or near death. Like I said, carriers are fleet ships and fleets usually know what to expect at their destination.

Templar: primary EM + secondary thermal, so good vs. shields Dragonfly: primary kinetic + secondary thermal Einherji: primary explosive + secondary kinetic, so good vs. armor Firbolg: primary thermal + secondary kinetic, so good vs. generic
A mix of Einherji and Firbolg with a couple of token Templar covers everything. Example: 4/3/3 for 10 fighters.
Dragonfly have the least amount of armor, and are the slowest moving, so if you don't notice them taking damage right-away, they are usually doomed to never making it back alive. Einherji and Firbolg do some kinetic damage, so Dragonfly are really only best for ratting kinetic weak stuff.
Tip: assigning a fighter to someone in fleet that is off-grid is the fastest way to save a fighter.

Thanks. I will be using this carrier in wh space, and eventually jump it to neighboring systems.

Is that even possible? I mean I saw maps of the WH cluster and while makes sense if you are in range it could work since you can light a cyno off can someone verify ?

No, no cyno or jump drives work in WH space. He might mean using a WH that can take the mass, though.

ok one thing. you can NOT jump a carrier into neighboring systems while in a wormhole. It is impossible to pod Chuck Norris. |

Make sure to load-up on sentries, especially Bouncer II, as frigate and cruiser spawns tend to target the fighters, then warp scramble and web, then eat them raw. Using a Drone Link Augmentor I is also a good idea, as some Sleepers like to hang-out past 55 km.
Spawns of mostly battleships, like escalations, are fine for fighters.
Heavy drones can be used on Sleeper cruisers, but you are often better off with medium.
Ignore Sleeper frigates, as they take too long for a carrier to lock.
As for fighter damage, I think Templar do the most damage as Sleepers have uniform armor resists. However, it is good idea to have a mix for the non-Sleeper player spawns you may encounter!
Oh and as already stated above, you can't use a jump drive in w-space, but capitals can enter C5/C6 through wormholes that have enough mass. Capitals built in C1/C2/C3/C4 systems can never leave.

Unless a system from a C5 or C6 is opened to a lower class system. In that case it can actually leave. thanks, I will most probably have support with me, but still pretty interseted in bringing fighters as they seem to deal quite a lot of damage

They all do the same damage, the fighters?

All fighters do exactly the same amount of dps (100 each at fighters 5 on an unbonused carrier). They do however have different tanks, speed and tracking. Minmatar, are as always, the fastest and have the best tracking. As previously said they do exp/kin damage.
That said, templars have the best armor and caldari have the best shields. So you may choose one of those based on what kind of RR you have fitted. You also need to consider optimal and falloff. As you would expect, amarr and caldari have the best optimals, gallente have a 50/50 optimal/falloff split and minmatar are all falloff. The end result is in many situations, amarr and caldari will actually do more damage since they are working in optimal. But, the damage types they do are inferior to exp and thermal, so there is a trade off.
I find all fighters are useful in pve but use einherji's almost exclusively in pvp. The reason is speed allows them to apply dps quickly and I'm mostly fighting armor gangs, so it's the best damage type too. But I should also mention that the primary role of a carrier is logistics. One archon equals eight guardians and one nidhoggur equals ten guardians if in triage. So generally speaking, I'm not using any drones at all (you can't use drones or any offensive mod except neuts/nos/smartbomb while in triage). Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

yes, all fighters do the same DPS, the dragonfly does the most volley damage and the einherji has the fastest ROF but they all do the same DPS.
