Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team The Gallente Republic has advanced several technologies further than any other race. Our hybrid weapons have the highest plasma yield. Our mastery of solid state nanites is unquestioned. And we have the most advanced man-made drones and drone control systems.
Originally by: Senator509 How does that translate into our ship design theory?
Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team Our ships have superb active armor tanks. They can sustain hundreds of damage per second. Some over a thousand. Our high damage weapon systems will defeat an enemy directing full power to his armor or shields faster than any other EmpireÆs weaponry.
Originally by: Senator509 I was under the impression that the other empires had been constructing ships with as many armor plates as they could fit, or as much shield capacity as possible. They say that when their vessels come under fire by more than a few enemy ships running nannites or sending all power to the shields does relatively little to mitigate the damage.
Originally by: Admiral412 ThatÆs right. Standard fleet doctrine is to fit ships with heavy buffers and rely on specialized logistic ships to repair damage. And in small engagements standard doctrine is to employ capacitor warfare against an active tanked ship instead of just bringing more damage. They use modules called energy neutralizers. They go in ship highslots. æcoughÆ
Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team Yes we understand our tech 1 hybrid cruiser and battlecruiser platforms lack utility highs. That is why we sent a memo to the Gallente shipyards not to fit hybrid turrets on our drone vessels. The Dominix and the Ishtar will gladly carry the energy neutralizers of the Gallente Republic.
Originally by: Admiral412 I was meaning to get to that subject. As you know the performance of lasers has been worrying many people for a while. Then the Minmatar redesigned their weapons to compete with the Amarians. Our drones are falling behind in the arms race. There used to be many private organizations that purchased our Ishtars because of the high damage our drones could provide. Now the vagabond does more damage while being faster and everyone is using it. Thukker Mix is making money hand over fist and s******ing at us all the way.
Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team Well just fit the Ishtar with blasters. Problem solved.
Originally by: Senator509 Private Organizations donÆt want to fit blasters. They want to keep their ships outside of scrambler range to minimize losses. You got to remember some of them have limited funds, and the Ishtar isnÆt cheap. They bought the Ishtar because it could do good damage to the enemy from a safe range. I mean, even the ones who want to do high damage complain that lasers do only 8% less damage in blaster optimals while being able to hit many times as far as our weapons do.
Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team Look we canÆt do everything. We are working on it. The added utility of drones...
Originally by: Admiral412 IsnÆt worth it. The new Minmatar tracking enhancer let their ships hit out far enough that autocannons are even used regularly in fleet fights. Look its real simple. Even in close range engagements when there are 50 enemies basic probability says that a good number of them will be at least some distance from you. When the fleet commander calls a primary you have to be able to hit it right THEN. Primaried ships arenÆt going to last very long.
Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team No problem. Just fit railguns.
Originally by: Senator509 The only respectable railgun platform is the Megathron. Our cruisers and battlecruisers CANÆT FIT DECENT SIZED RAILGUNS BECAUSE THEY HAVE POWERGRID ISSUES! The senate is considering buying Hurricanes and Muninns from the Minmatar for our light support fleet ships.

Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team Wait. Wait. Wait. Just take a droneboat and fit sentries on it.
Originally by: Admiral412 The myrmidon can only launch three sentries. It canÆt scoop the sentries if it is aligned and needs to warp. And it can only carry two sets. You do the math.
Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team Ok fine but we can at least mass produce Dominixes fit them with heavy plates and use them as sentry platforms. They can sit stationary in a clump and fill their highslots with remote repair modules.
Originally by: Admiral412 That actually sounds pretty good... I like it. All the sentries could be assisted to the FC so he wouldnÆt have to worry about ships following primary. Except... How do you prevent bombers from killing your entire fleet?
Originally by: Gallente_R&D_Team Umm. I donÆt know.
Originally by: Senator509 YouÆre all fired. The Republic needs ship designers that understand how to create vessels that allow for competitive fleet doctrines. We canÆt afford your brand of jackassery.

This is a rant I put in another thread in response to gallente pilots being confused on exactly why the nano nerf + web/scram changes actually hurt gallente.
The scrambler/web changes made blaster tracking difficult because although the target was tackled just as well after the changes as before, they didn't suffer from mwd signature bloom.
The scram changes put gallente ships at a disadvantage because a shield ship can now firmly tackle a target with the use of only a single midslot. Before the changes gallente were often the only ships with enough open midslots to easily fit warp disruptor + web. Any ship can now be fit to firmly tackle a target, a province that was once gallente ships only had to share with a handful of others, like the rapier.
Changing web/scram did not effect the mobility of gallente ships. It effected the UTILITY of gallente ships. A slow blaster boat before the changes couldn't escape a nanoship without killing it, and had about as much difficulty as catching a kiting nanoship before and after. But the utility of gallente ships took a definite hit.

Yes blasters suck. But current Gallete ship design is stupid. Even if you accept Gallente as a solo/small gang race Minmatar demonstrate that you can be a solo/small gang race and still have stuff to bring to the table for fleet fights.
What Gallente need is a rethinking of their combat theory. Slow + Blasters doesn't cut it. Maybe a small blaster buff.
What Gallente are probably going to get is after a long campaign of agitation(whenever people finally decide to do it), CCP will overbuff blasters.

Edited by: Songbird on 23/03/2011 03:44:09 Actually ishtar does pull more dps than almost any t2 cruiser out there and at higher range - probably the one t2 that has the DPS to be considered for lvl 4 missions.
What we need as drone users is a module that pulls sentry drones to the ship and also puts them in the ship's defenses and even takes em into warp with you.
So in other words - a multi tractor beam , that would stick the drones to your armor so the nanites can rep em when they rep the armor, or alternatively under the shield, for shield users.
As an alernative , fit all sentry drones with MWD so they follow your ship around(although that's the worse solution)
That's only step 1 of course. Step 2 is to raise all gal ships drone bandwidth by 25(obviously not the ones that already have the 125) and double the drone bay.
After all that is completed I might even take a proteus with 5 sentry stuck to my butt out for a spin and the myrmidon would have the dps , range and defenses of a tengu - yeehaa.
Edit:
Step 3 - T3 drones...

I remember when this was true for PvP too. The Ishtar's damage output was so far ahead of any other nano hac that dealing with drone limitations was actually worth it. |
