Hi all, just posting with the hope that someone can give me a bit of advice with regard to lvl 4 mission running. Pretty much I've only been playing the game for a fairly short ammount of time and have just got up to the ability to fly battleships. A couple of mates of mine who have had the game for a much longer time have invited me to fly lvl 4 mission with them for the extra cash/lp.
I don't really want to just sit there doing nothing but equally from what I've heard with a basic battleship fit or even the fairly decent battlecruiser fit I've been running I wouldn't last very long at all if I actually come under fire. My plan at the moment goes something along the lines of getting an apocalpyse and building some form of sniper while they absorb the agro but as I would hardly say I have experience in running lvl 4s I have no idea if this would be worth it or even work. Anybody got any suggestions about what I could try out?

Well since you're doing lvl 4s with others all you need is an armor tank with T2 fittings - infact you could probably make do with some meta 4 fittings. T2 Large armor repair is a must, then fit 4 rat specific hardeners (If you can't fit T2 you can use N-type hardeners) and the last 2 low slots you can put heat sinks for extra damage. You also MUST be able to fit Cap rechargers II's - fit 3 or 4 in mid slots depending on your cap skills and if you need extra cap. Finally fit the High slots with modulated pulse beams and get a set of Multfrequncy crystalla (for close range, high damage) and also a set of radio crystals (for far range). Oh and for rigs put 2x CCC and 1x aux. You should sail through with this fit.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I just have one more question which I fear may run the risk of me being lambasted for lack of knowledge but when you say to fit specific hardeners do you mean that there's a set guide of which ones to use to which enemies as so far I've made do with passive resistance boosters which focus on improving resistance to all damage types?

Yes, there are such guides. Also, if you read mission reports, the mission report tells you which ammunition to use and which resists/hardners to use. For example, if I do mission against Angels, I would fit explosive and kinetic resists.

In my experience until your battleship-sized skills are up to par you'd be better off flying the best ship you can fly. For me it was a Caracal and my corpmates greatly appreciated me taking out all the frigates with assault missile launchers. When I did actually come under fire from the battleships I was too small for them to hit effectively and I could sometimes tank the whole room not taking any damage.
So what I'm saying is, fly a smaller ship, take out frigates and cruisers which is very, very helpful to your fleet/corpmates while you train up relevant battleship skills.

When aggro management of your corpies is accurate, you wonŠt get aggro at all. You can have a go with a glass cannon, dps dealing. Ofc when your mate messes up with aggro, youŠll better be aligned and ready to warp.

You can easily use an Apocalypse with T1 fittings and a minimum if tank. I run 2 clients. One in a Paladin and one in an Armageddon. The Geddon only had 3 Energized Adaptive Nanomembranes and a medium armor repper. The few times it actually came under fire, that was enough tank for it to get out in time or actually tank the incomming fire.
So teamwork is the key here, if your friends pull aggro before you arrive and broadcast targets, you don't need much of a tank.
Enjoy the fun
