After much fussing with the fit on my new Hurricane, I finally settled for a decent T2 armor tank and meta 3 gun fit. I flew to my system of choice and decided that today (yesterday) would be the day I got my first mission runner BC kill.
Apparently luck was with me. First scan showed a BC at almost 50% signal strength. Couple scans later I had a Cyclone bookmarked and was warping into his mission. I found him in the first room, killing off some mission rats. I zipped to his (my) first wreck, and looted. Went to another, looted. Decided to really make him mad, and stole a third wreck...the one he was slowboating to. Yep, that got him. He locked me up and fired off a round of missiles. Haha, silly bear.
I warped out, hands shaking, and docked. Took the 30 second session change to get some meditation in to stop the shakes, jumped into the Cane and made my way back to the mission. D-scan showed him still close by. First room, no ship...took WAY too long to go the 30km to the next acceleration gate. Jumped through, and there he was, 28km off. Now, he had plenty of time to warp...my cane is slow. But he didn't. Instead, he decided to fight. Took a pitifully long time, but I got a point on him and got close enough to start firing.
Drones whizzing by, guns blazing, missiles firing...my shields were going down slowly, his were going down quite a bit faster. His shields fail first, I figure he's probably armor tanked like I am. Well, I was wrong. His armor starts dropping like a stone, my shields finally failed when his armor was nearing 25%. Then, the unthinkable happened...
The bastard ejected and ran away in his pod. I stopped firing, and redirected my drones to kill the couple rats in the room before they popped his ship. I waited around for the guy to come back and fetch his ship. He finally did...in a Hurricane, with a friend in a Drake. I patiently waited until the aggro times had all ran out, then fetched a shuttle from a nearby station. If I can't have the killmail, damnit, I'll have his ship.
I returned to the mission, used the gates to get to the second room where I see the Drake sitting probably 20km from the abandoned Cyclone. The original pilot had left the area, apparently to ditch the Hurricane and come back for the Cyclone. No, my friends, this ship was mine. I set the self destruct on the shuttle, and boarded the Cyclone...which had a massively fail fit.
So there it is, my first attempt at a BC kill. No kill, but I did score a ship that I'll be selling to help pad my wallet some more.
tl;dr Newbie pirate goes for his first BC kill, and gets a free ship instead.

Yeah I know that, but at this point in my newbie career, isk > km. The hull of his ship is worth WAY more than the crap modules that would have dropped.

Too many have been playing this game too long and isk has no value at all to them, to me that feels the point where the game has exceeded a boundary it had no place being near. Even losing super carriers these days is too often considered merely inconvenient.

2 things can be going on here:
1 You are just making **** up, because if the drake would have locked the cyclone you would never be able to board it.
2 Those guys were utterly stupid for not locking the cyclone, so you could not board it.
I hope its the second really!

Yeah the Drake did nothing. Just sat there and watched me board and fly away with his buddy's ship.

If there is one thing I have come to learn about EVE, its that 90% of the players are idiots.
Grats on your path to piracy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GJ guy, a nice tale of space robbery, nice to see some genuine pirates still around.
Because no, blowing the isk you made on your carebear alt in lowsec PvP is not pirating. Making a profit from the losses of others, that's a pirating.

Most highsec dwellers don't know about the locking thing, that's why idiots get their orcas stolen when they eject and start mining in their hulks - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

I respect your opinion, but I don't agree with it. In literature, your good pirate stories happen in higher patrolled areas, the Spanish Main, for example (that would be the Caribbean / South America where gold and other valuables were commonly shipped). Applying similarities to Eve, piracy happens in highsec, being it's a patrolled area (Concord) and targets are easier to find (mission hubs = Spanish Main).

Except that in Eve high sec your "victims" have to volunteer to be victims and you're in no danger from anyone who hasn't war dec'd you. If you stay in the newbie corp then you're basically immune to all risk.
Edit: And bonus carebear points for not going -10.

which makes hisec piracy even harder and more interesting than lolsec camp sessions. /edit: You are in lowsec just as immune to pvp if you want to.

Wrong! This is actually my new main. I just came back to Eve and I don't have my old character. I never post with alts. I have about 150m, an executioner and some +3 implants to my name right now. I'm giving it a week to get some basic skills going before I go back to being naughty.
Edit: And don't call me names. I have 2 dual light pulse laser 1's and a meta 2 scrambler and I won't hesitate to use them.

It's very rare when piracy actually lets you steal somebody's ship. Grats on that, you'll probably never get to do that again.
There's no such thing as overkill, only degrees of effectiveness. |

OP will do well. Some like killmails but I like being paid in loot, ransom (or in your case a free ship).

It was a long time ago, and I don't remember the exact details, but some friends and I compelled a pilot to eject from his ship in order to avoid our threat to destroy both his ship and pod.
We let his pod go, and fortunately, another member of our corp was able to pilot the ship. Good time! ---
