I recently started solo Level 4 missions. Got ninja'd on my very first mission!
Anyway I've only done a few missions. They were easy enough but I almost died in the Extravaganza bonus room - warped out with 25% structure left 
I did read eve-survival etc. Is it possible to finish the bonus room in a Maelstrom without warping out?
Here is the ship I was using:

Also, last I checked, the risk/time versus reward makes the bonus room not worth doing.

I like doing the bonus room for fun. I think you can do it. I use the hardeners already mentioned (1 explosive, 2 invuln). It is good to have a game plan that works for you.
Here's what works for me. First, I take out the 3 cruise missile batteries to remove the thermal dps. Next, I deploy drones on webbers/vipers. Then, I try to maintain 20km distance from BS's as I kill off cruisers and sentries. I take out lesser BS's as I kite at 20km+. I kill the Seraphim last around 25km. Finally, I kill off the spawns as I kite at 20km+.
I sorta use the Angel bunker as a pivot point. I think it's sorta fun because you have to think about how to maneuver if not overtanked. |

Take out the cruise launchers first, they do a riduclous amount of em damage, and as it looks you have very low em resistances.

I think your tank is not just good enough. Even by doing it right (killing things in right order and kiting close range battleships) there is quite heavy incoming damage. I would recommend you get rid of afterburner and try a setup like this: X-L shield booster II Heavy capacitor booster II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Shield Boost Amplifier II Shield Boost Amplifier II With fit like this there should be no problem tanking AE4 bonus room. --- People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought they seldom use (S.Kierkegaard) |

Navy 800s in T2 heavy cap booster are a waste. They're also very expensive.

If you can't fit T2 ACs, roll w/ 1200s Arty until you can. They don't hit as hard as 1400s, but in practice they work really well. Your shield hardeners should be Invuln x2 & Explosive. Add an XL faction booster and boost amplifier instead of the AB and your tank is enormous. While you're pimping it out, add RF Gyros and consider skilling up for a T2 burst rig. Yes. I've been playing around with the Drake and the bonus room for fun the past 2 weeks actually. Best run was a 4bcs passive regen AB setup, but I got the maneuver just right on that run. Worst run was a 4bcs active tank, and I had to warp out once. Smoothest run was 3 bcs passive regen tank with AB. I hope to play with a microwarpdrive some next chance I get.

The room has multiple 1M-isk-ish BS's, it's worth about 15 mil in bountys alone. It's quite yummeh :)
