Spent a long time grinding standings to gain access to the best agents, but i'm still fine with agent quality being removed. I like the idea of being able to pick a system off the beaten path to use, instead of cluster**** mission hubs which are rife with ninja salvagers and thieves. It will be good for the game in general by making mission running more accessible to new players and having more activity in a wider amount of systems. I've already made a small fortune over the years running L4s, so if it turns out to be a nerf to the income of players like me, that's ok.
But it does make me wonder: What is the point of standings now?
Sure, we get to put up POS in hisec space, and make a little isk on the side, for those of us able to and interested in such things, but is that really the primary thing standings are going to be good for in EVE from now on? There's a chance with Incarna that they could impact the ability to open businesses in different stations, or they could just offer a minimal rent decrease, much like the percentage they offer to refining or market costs.
I'd be interested in hearing something from CCP on this in a blog or whatnot. I'm sure i'm not the only high standing character wondering what the future holds. As for the average forum goer, what thoughts do you have on this?

Corp standings are also used for Jumpclones, Refining tax and Market fees. Faction standings are used for entering FW (low requirement) and High-Sec POS deployment.
Cant think of others so feel free to correct me.

Anyone who wants JCs can still get them wherever they want without grinding standings. It's easily avoided. There's even some guy who runs a free service i'm sure someone else can remember the name of.
I already mentioned POS deployment, which makes me doubtful you even read the whole post, but not everyone is interested in that, or is even able to put it to use the way the game mechanics pretty much insist you be in a corp by yourself to do. And once again, there are people willing to do it for you at a price, or for free if you know them, without you needing to personally work towards being able to place a POS.
The main reason most people start building standings is for access to more exclusive agents, and better mission income.

What makes you think CCP has actually thought this one out? This wouldn't be the first time for CCP to make sweeping changes obsoleting other things and not thinking things through.

those are some things that can save a person allot of isk when you have the good standings so the station or DED dont take all those % of profits

Just hoping they have. Would like to hear something.
And as for FW, they've already introduced some kind of thing which new players can use to get into it without the standings, but even with that there's still not many interested.

only took a day or 2 to grind standing for best missions so not much point in standing already
