Edited by: Versuvius Marii on 30/03/2011 17:57:09 I'm now in a position to fly either an Onyx, Devoter or Broadsword - but owing to being rather proficient in Gunnery my choice is narrowed down to Broadsword or Devoter. I am equally at home with either armour or shield tanking, projectiles or lasers. I'm also quite aware that I will not be the man packing the dps, I'll be tackling should I be in a fleet.
I live in high sec and go out to low-sec from time to time so I will almost always be packing a focused script. I'm swinging towards Devoter as I won't need to sacrifice tank to pack in sebo's for the inevitable gate camp.
Am I right to go for a Devoter? What are the pros and cons for these ships in high/low sec?
Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

Edited by: Katarlia Simov on 31/03/2011 06:01:10 TBH, the Phobos is best for low sec, since you get 2x sebo, mwd and web all in one package, can even toss a single sebo for another web or a scrambler. Makes you a mean ass heavy tackler.
It depends what you will be doing tho. If you wanna nail frigs and stuff as they jump through a gate, then sure, go for a seboed fit phobos or devoter.
However, since you are a high sec living guy, you probably aren't going to be just nabbing stuff indiscriminately. In that case, you wanna fit for whatever gang you are likely to be flying. If you have shield logi, then broadsword, if armor, then either phobos or devoter. I don't like the onxy cuz of its resist hole, but it will still work.
I think a good question is if this is right ship for you in general ?
If you wanna nab ANYTHING coming through a gate (ie something that is probably WCSed and running fast) then sure. But if you are going looking for fights a HIC is just not a good choice unless you need to tackle a capital. Yes, they are great heavy tackle, but all you can do is hold one guy, and unless you run in a BIG gang I'd say bring something with some dps. You just aren't getting the benefit of the WDFG in low sec unless you are a pirate tackling WCSed guys. Practically anything with proper combat abilities would be better.
Edit - I think that the WDFG picks up bonuses from the interdiction maneuvers link, which can give you impressive point range (and bubble range too maybe ? never tested it) which is nice... Can someone confirm that this interaction works ?

Nope, it is not bonused by that link with script or no HICs are pretty even in their class, but I'd pick phobos or broadsword depending on gang tank type for high/lowsec |

I once saw a Broadsword station camping outside the Chamemi station, shedding DPS and blowing up ships like it was going out of style, and doing this solo. So my opinion is biased towards the Broadsword. Also, the name "Broadsword" is pretty bada**. And I am a Caldari pilot... :) _____________________________________ Real men corpse tank. |

That is why HIC's tend to be the ones that grab initial point and once secondary points have been landed it can shut off the Disrupter and get reps. The Boardsword and the Onyx have the advantage of passive shield regen and the Devouter can fit a fairly impressive active tank. The Phobos can sport the most EHP of the group so it can usually survive long enough.
HIC's are very tanky tackling ships meant to survive cap engagements and do a job which is what makes them ideal for gate gangs. A Lachesis/Arazu with Logi support is arguably the better choice.

If your going to go that way and have a body to sit in a claymore as a POS or wherever, Proteus is the way to do it.
2x sebo, 2x 50km points with 128k ehp and great resists. More hp with less resists too. Arazu/lach has more actual tackle and obviously more range with a claymore, but is SO much less survivable.
