I assume theres been a ton of FF posts but this is my personal overview of Fanfest, in all its wall of text glory. Theres so much to say I think its only fair I break it down into a few category's
Iceland First off this is my first FF, so its also my first trip to Iceland, Immediately struck by the beauty of this place even on a bus at 2am after 12 hours of painfully boring travel. Its gorgeous, I loved every second of the place, the city, the people the scenery. On the first day we went on The Golden Circle Tour, and thanks to a very funny entertaining tour guide had a great day even if most of it was spent on a bus being sweaty n sober, scenery was amazing and felt rather surreal to pass huge ice covered Mountains, glaciers and all kinds of sh*t mostly restricted to the National Geographic channel. I'm Irish, so the biggest thing we have to a mountain is Bonos ego
Community You cant grasp the size of Fanfest until you actually go, not until you see the crowds, hear the passion, feel the excitement, its just bloody immense. And its the community that the entire thing boils down to, I met so many amazing people, made more friends in a week than I have in the last year, people I came to trust in days. Fanfest just gives you the chance and the balls to go up to random people you've never met before and bond over an internet spaceship game. Thats just insane when you take a few steps back and think about it.
All the guys in our Hotel just sorta banded up over our combined love for this game, aww yeah Team Hotel Cabin FTW, because Fanfests more fun the more friends you make. An hour off my plane and im drinkin with 15 complete strangers and its awesome. Then with every day that passed made more friends, enemies and team Hotel Cabin grew stronger in numbers and brotherhood. It became the embodiment of all the friendships I'd made at FF and the strongest. But some other memorable being the Danish Couple from RvB who were representing Blue in Iceland, the crazy guy who I had an argument over whiskeys n bourbons and traded names on bar coasters, the guy I yelled at for rattin in a carrier as opposed to a Nightmare, and the Icelandic EvE dude in a kilt. Epic times people.
Fanfest Events Then theres the actual events at FF, the part people at home get to see, but trust me its not the same when you're one of the people in the crowd screaming F**K YEAH 3 times. And theres tons you barely see on cam, the round tables, the PVP arena, Battle of the bands, open mic night, chessboxing. All amazing and all 500% more enjoyable when yous there, only problem I ever had was the fact some overlap and they're all rather close together. Theres tons I missed and I was there every day. Just isnt enough time in the world, but the events I did see were incredibly organized and enjoyable, laid back but professionally done, apparently the theme of Iceland and CCP. Needless to say watching the EvE Forever trailer I was one of many who literally wet themselves with excitement, what a video \o/
Then the 2 big events, the pub crawl and the top of the world party. The pub crawl was one of the less organized and more holy s**t insane lets drink till we fall down events. Utter chaos is an understatement. Talking **** to every EvE player you meet and looking for in game celebs. But dag nabit if I didnt outlast most before I tried walk home at half 5, finding random Icelanders and goin to their small house party and having Icelandic moonshine (read above about how awesome and friendly these people are) and eventually crawling back to bed at 8.

The Top of the World Party, well my first impressions were holy s**t this is huge and awesome and it went from there, I'd be lying if I said I remembered all of it, or even heard all of it. I spent most of the time running around annoying devs, and it was kickasssss, hence the dedicated Dev section. But the scale and style of the party was impresssive, aswell as the young ladies paid to go around shooting vodka in peoples faces with super soakers, thank you CCP, really T H A N K Y O U xD
CCP Devs What other game have you ever played and loved and got to socially interact with them, while providing your insights and personal thoughts on the game? It feels good, really good. SO much so after I met one Dev and had a uplifting experience I spent the rest of The Top of the World Party actively hunting and face melting them. So I hereby apoligize for the over excited drunk semi-midget Irishman who annoyed you all, but dammit you gave me the chance and the floodgates opened.
So here in no particular order are the Devs I met
CCP Alice, Who'd a thunk it, an Irish dev from a county beside my small county developing a game I love, and me running into her. This worlds insanely small some times. Anyway she was awesome and the first Dev I met (I think), but dammit I want an Irish pub crawl!! xD. Also I apoligize for the last time you seen me, I was screaming angry abuse after someone stole my coat (the only negative experience I had at FF but yeah it sucked)
CCP Affinity, Oh yuss another Irish Dev, the one whos pub crawl I was on, she went home early but only because CCP had her up early the next day, boo CCP =( but she was amazing! one of the most friendly devs I met and I chewed the ears off her for quite awhile during the party and she didnt seem to mind. She also plaited my hair, awww yeah whos jealous now, how many EVE players can say a Dev touched their hair.
The second Dev on our pub crawl, who might have been a GM iunno but he was also another Irish dev but one of the most INSANE people I have ever met. Brennivin man, Brennivin. Friendly in the I want to have a fun time with you but we may wake up in a ditch in Scotland with goats chewing our armpits. I apoligize for not remembering your name but dammit I'm afraid to. Still outlasted you on the pub crawl though so suck it.
CCP Cascade, ohhh what a man for one man. You made me addicted to annoying Devs because it was so much fun, so everyone else blame him. We (and by we I mean me) had a great long chat where I professed my love for Carbon (among other things wink wink) while still proclaiming the Devs as arrogant xD. Ok Guys you reinvented the wheels and put lasers on it but keep your head on the ground. Carbon Fest? pffft dudes :P
CCP Pyro, simply A true gentleman and a legend. Not least of all for forgiving me (lets not say for what) AND for giving me beer when I had none =( I love you dude, have my babies, just dont give them beer.
CCP Konflict, I have no idea what I said to you because at this point I'd lost all coherent ability, but I liked you and you laughed your ass off when I took Cascade down a peg or 2. Oh yuss.
CCP content guy, ugh most of all I regret forgettin your name, but you told me you worked on EVE Forever trailer and I got on my knees to thank you, dear CHRIST what a video. And he was a gent, said the reception was all the thanks he needed and it almost brought tears to his eyes (lets all assume it did and hes just acting tough)
CCP EvE Gate gate, brief but encouraging convo to tell you YUSS people use spacebook but dammit hurry up and make it useful xD
Darius Johnson, well ok not a dev but the guy was really great, gave me a mic and let me fail epicaly at commentating (but dam it was fun), gave advice and encouragement. Guys awesome at what he does and anyone who says different knows jack about commentary. Also ran into him in pub crawl and may have ****ed him off, who knows, brennivin messes you up. But really much lau bro <3 -----------------

Edited by: Saint Lazarus on 31/03/2011 15:24:19 So yeah all in all FF was out of this world insane, amazing and I'd like to profess my undying love to the CCP employee of the year aka
CCP Chick shooting vodka in my face, frak yuss
I'm sure im forgetting some, but I assure you it was only because I'm a dreadful drunk even by Icelandic standards. I also cant fit in everything I want to say because even at 3 posts its leaving out alot of sordid details, trust me if you go to FF you will have 1000 stories to tell, all of which last a lifetime.
Also my little FF momento Warning: Hairy Nipple
TL:DR. I had a great drunken time in Iceland, suck it anyone who didnt get to go -----------------

The thread title made me think you were going to lock yourself in your room with over priced beer, terrible music, nothing new, a key ring and a full 10 kilograms of sausages.
Left disappointed as you might imagine.

Iceland's BMI increased temporarily. There was a run on Baconators. Internet atheists mocked the local religious community.

Ahhh, Brennivin, they call it black death for a reason. Still 4am wasn't too bad eh.
The pub crawl was great fun, many birthday songs were sung, stories told, hot dogs eaten, stragglers adopted and vast quantities of alcohol were consumed by all in attendance.
You're very welcome and we're glad you enjoyed yourselves. Hope to see you all again in 2012.

I would make an account of my FanFest experience, but it would be exactly the same as this because we went over together. Just two people and as Saint said we made brosef's with people we never thought we'd meet!
CCP Alice was the first dev we met to confirm that at the live agent table and from that moment it was like "whoa devs don't seem to mind people talking random crap to them.... Or is it just because she's Irish and awesome by default?" So we went on and spoke to a number of devs the final count is so hard to put a number on because it was a Brennivfn soaked haze of epicness! And our first thought was confirmed that all the devs are total win.
FanFest is awesome, definitely going back next year for that Irish pub crawl that the awesome CCP Affinity said she would try organize :)
