Hi I am wondering if torps are viable for soloing C2 and C3, mainly as far as range is concerned. Will Javelins with 60km range be enough or do some sleepers orbit further?

Torps will do just fine for hitting battleships.

Not unless you fly a Golem. In that case send me mail sometime, so I can help you with your ventures into WH space. |

Megalorn wrote:Hi I am wondering if torps are viable for soloing C2 and C3 Sure, most of those targets are soloable with a bomber, just watch out for drones.
Megalorn wrote:mainly as far as range is concerned. Range? Your longest (non-officer) unbonused point has a range of 30km..
Megalorn wrote:Will Javelins with 60km range be enough No need for Javelins, use faction torps. With the racial frigate bonus on a bomber you get torp range well over your point range, somewhere around 53-54km.

Words solo, torps and wormholes should never be used together:
1) In general sleepers can hit you father than your best range, and are faster than you. Sure you might be able to negate one of those advantages, but not both.
2) Sleeper ships tend to be fast and have low sigs. I use a target painter with heavy missiles, and most (non-light) drones to hit sleepers well.
3) Sleepers will eat your drones like pop corn soloing. Sure you can do a few tricks to keep them alive, but unless you are in a group of 3+ you'll need to treat drones as ammo.
If you are soloing c1-3 I recommend a Drake or a Tengu with HM. With a speedy Tengu you can also use HAMs. but realize that speed tanking stops working when the sleepers put 2-3 webs on you.
PS- I highly recommend you join a wormhole corp if w-space interests you. W-space is unforgiving to the solo pilot. (Also a lot of corps are happy to have a torp battleship along to take the sleeper battleships.) I'm sure you are thinking why share the loot, but you'll make more in a corp that knows what it's doing. |

Torps against sleepers - even battleships - is a bit of a no no - Something with explosive radius/velocity bonus might help a bit but even with a bonused target painter you won't hit very effectively. You need a couple of webs on the sleepers before torps start to do much damage at all and before you will see any real benefits from target painting even.
Only time I'd even consider using a golem is for C5/6 escalations where it can feed off the webbing and target painting support for your dreads and the escalation BS tend to orbit inside golem torp range - problem is the golem is shield tanked and most people will run armor setups for escalations - not to mention your dps is somewhat minor once you have a dread on field (although the target painting bonus is useful). |

I find you need a t2 painter and a couple of web drones to get full damage on a Sleeper BS. Of course the sleepers will eat your web drones sooner or later. And you'll spend a lot of time swearing at ships outside your range. I generally find a HAM tengufor frigate heavy sites, and a HM tengu/drake work better than a BS. I generally only bring a BS when we have a fleet of 3+ and are spending a lot of time on sleeper BS or guns. (Personally I use an Apoc/Geddon with sentries rather than a torp ship.) |

so ant artillery hurricane with optimal 55 and 90 dropoff and 77 dps should keep the sleepers away and still kil them? |

Matrim Fidard wrote:so ant artillery hurricane with optimal 55 and 90 dropoff and 77 dps should keep the sleepers away and still kil them? Sleeper aren't like normal rats. They have better range and speed than you. Sure you might be able out run a sleeper BS, but the BS can shoot father than you. You can't out run sleeper frigates in any ship able to do the required dps. You have to tank them in some fashion and speed tanking doesn't work very well. (Too much webbing and neuting) |
