sure it has been suggested before but just to mention it:
make belts dry up:
When a certain belt in a system has been sucked dry, respawn the belt in another system. Humans will search, bots can't farm the same system day in day out.
It won't stop them, but it will make some sort of human intervention needed.

Edited by: Asset Liquidator on 31/03/2011 21:56:43 this will make it harder to spot bots, since said bots will have humans on them sometimes. |

A closely monitored bot is only slightly better off than a human player, so this would do much to help out humans. Or, as has been suggested many times, have all mining sites be scanned down, and only have trash ore in the belts. In either case a human still needs to scan to find the ore, which forces some level of at minimum human supervision of the bots, which in turn substantially limits the advantage of using a bot.

FUN FACT: There are probably bots capable of travelling between systems.

Like i mentioned, it won't stop them. But if you believe the stories about the 1000+ bot large-scale operations it will make it a great deal more hard for them. It will also prevent them for cleaning the same system day in day out.
And it won't hurt the real players, i'm sure they wouldn't mind if you can target, say, 20% of, the biggest operations.

Gas cloud plus neuting rats mixed randomly with damage rats will destroy all mining bots. .

I like it when people say "simple solution for bots." Makes me giggle. The only real solution for bots is the XKCD "mission accomplished" filter.

There are ratting bots, so rats won't be much of a hindrance.

I'm not getting it then. Neuting and omni-damage isn't going to be a big deal with a bot Drake. Worst case, you just have a passive sensor boosted Ferox bot with a rack of civilian guns to draw NPC aggro and just tank them.
