1400mm artillery, logically, fires a 1400mm projectile. Traditionally, size in millimeters indicates the diameter of the projectile used in the weapon.
1400 millimeters is 1.4 meters.
A circle 1.4 meters in diameter has a surface area of approximately 1.54 m2.
Large projectile ammo is 0.0425 m3 per unit.
An object 1.4 meters in diameter, with a total volume of 0.0425 m3, must have an average depth of approximately 28 mm.
Conclusion: 1400mm artillery cannons do not fire Volkswagens; they fire large manhole covers.
Discuss.

They fire the same ammo 800mm repeating artillery shoots.
That means, its like a small weeney in a big hole.

Actually, I'd guess that the ammunition is stored within miniature Planck bubbles, similar to those that allow a GSC of volume 3000 m3 to hold 3900. The efficiency of said bubble can be boosted dramatically, as it'd only be opened once by the weapon at the time of firing.

So what you're saying is that we need some kind of sanctioned RMT (real meter trading) to more closely connect the two? ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Yup, we need mathimaticians looking at these seemingly random numbers in show info so that they can excogitate a way to measure the relationship. That's the only way we can find the cohesion behind the m & m^3 in eve.
However the 1400mm in the name of the gun may not really be suggesting the bullet diameter, it may be the fitting size or even the length of the barrel. I mean where do the 1600mm armor plates get the name?

I wonder much gunpowder that is used then to fire off these iron discs?

Hmm, I think you can have your cake and eat it too in this and have launch and impact diameter of 1400mm. A 1400mm diameter cylinder with a minimal toroidal cross section (i.e. a hollow cylinder with no ends). That would literally act like an apple corer (and be damned if I'd want a 1.4m apple corer hitting my ship at any velocity).
Ever seen a tube (pen barrel or even a straw) used as a weapon? Having seen both pen barrels and small capped pipes used this way I can say it ain't pretty - it's hard to repair that type of coring wound neatly if it hits something important.
Pity the physics doesn't help the argument much in space though - the internal gas pressure increase on impact is usually what stops the walls collapsing Mind you, space isn't an absolute vacuum and if you cap the trailing end, spit it out fast enough to get the rarified gases in space to compress and make the leading edge really sharp... oh, stretching the realism a bit huh?

As I understood it the ammo you store in the cargo is just the warhead. the rest of the ammo is pulled from a hammer space and where Chribba stores his veldspar.
So for example with EMP ammo it pulls the Volkswagen from the random scrap metal around the ship and loads a car radio into it. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |

You're trying to transpose 20th century conventions FAR into the future. That's where the hole is in your argument.
In the universe of EVE, the 1400mm of course relates to the LENGTH of the projectile, not the diameter...

No one ever thought about grouping weapons and where the hell the projectiles end up?
If we have 6 guns side-by-side and we group them to shoot at the same time, the projectiles fly at the same speed. The projectiles always hit the same spot on the ship which means that the projectiles should collide mid-flight and bounce off of each other and not "melt" into one big projectile. Of course, if the ship has the turrets at it's side, only the pairs at opposite end of the ship will collide, but still they're not going to hit the target as separate projectiles.

All large ammo is the same size, about 155m if I recall correctly. The diameters listed are the inside diameter of the cast iron pipes that are taped around the gun barrels to make them look bigger and therefore do more damage. It is a lot like putting a racing or NOS sticker on small front-wheel drive car. The sticker alone give you additional horsepower, so the large pipe.. er barrel would make your shot do more damage. 1400mm is the largest pipe that tech1 and tech2 duct tape can hold on to. There will probably be an expansion in the future to allow for the manufacture of T3 duct tape from WH space or as a tier 4 PI construction.
