I'm looking to move full-time out of empire, eventually get into 0.0. I've currently got a covert-ops/bomber alt I play around with who lives in low, but my main isk source is still in empire. I'd like to detach myself from empire completely and become really self-sufficient in the wilderness, so to speak.
My main flies most any amarr ships and some caldari. What all is worth doing in lowsec for an income source and what kind of ships should I be flying in order to make the best of them without being a lossmail waiting to happen?
I realize most people consider lowsec and nullsec to be for the sole purpose of pvp (and I do take part in that from time to time), but my primary concern at the moment is balancing my budget and assuring myself I won't have to evac to highsec right away.

Piracy, not good income but it's the most fun. Also the tears will give you all the memories and strength of your victims
Pilgrim is a great ship for solo in lowsec but I'd recommend training for a Hurricane, good DPS and fast enough to gtfo if they bring backup Also lowsec is empire space too, it's like Hollywood or Detroit.

andski's guide to getting out of the awful grind that is high-sec and becoming a rich spaceman~
step 1: train up for a respectable ship step 2: look for a reputable corporation that is part of a reputable nullsec alliance step 3: review their recruitment policies, apply accordingly step 4: look for lucrative opportunities within the alliance, become rich

if you want to make iskies in nullsec i would suggest ratting...mining wouldnt work because you would need to either find a place to refine (good luck) or haul the ore to hisec in an indy/blocakde runner or something (more good luck).

Plexing should be plenty of isk for your needs. I'd suggest running scout/harbinger. Travel around, see what kind of trouble you can stir up between sites, and you might even impress some locals.
The goon is pretty much correct. "Self-sufficient," has a lot more to do with being in a good corp and/or good space unless you have your isk-maker sitting in empire running L4s. In a good corp you'll have intel and some defense from roaming gangs while you are out attempting to carebear. And that's before you factor in the gravy like ship replacement benefits.

Yes - this is the best advice.
Just two things here.
1) You'll notice that Andski is not asking you to join the goons (though he's not telling you not to).
2) He is telling you to review the corporation/alliances recruiting policies. Which you really do want to do.
There is a web site called Something Awful. The people who hang out there refer to themselves as Goons - whether they play EVE or not - and probably predate this game as a group. Some of them join games as a group - which is where the guys playing EVE came from. Thus - they are an external group of people who happen to be playing EVE - NOT - a group of EVE players who got together and formed a group. It is my understanding that - to be recruited by the Goons - you must be a member of Something Awful first - and that, though I've not been there to check, it says so on their web site. If you try joining them without doing that - they will rob you and blow you up.

Goon recruitment policy enforced.

Membership extended... oh wait.. you don't seem to have much stuff. Nevermind.
Originally by: Leeroy McJenkins There is no real pvp in EVE, there is only winning or losing and then feeling :smug: about winning or sore about losing. There is nothing wrong with this arrangement.
