Has anyone here tried it out? I'm sure the economy is nothing compared to EVE but how is the combat? Would you say it's worth installing? It seemed like freelancer the MMO, which could be decent.

You could have posted this in the "Out of Pod Experience" forum. You could have posted this on MMORPG.com in either their EVE forum or their Black Prophecy forum. You could have trusted your own judgment over that of strangers and tried Black Prophecy yourself. _____________________________ [Sebiestor tattoos and Intaki hair: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER.] |

Its very good, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done if its even going to compete with eve or sto, but the fact that its free to play MMO means a hell of a lot, it has to be the best looking and best free-to-play game i've ever experienced personally, but its a game that is so vastly different from eve you cannot compare the two in my opinion. The game players very much like the more traditional space games like x-wing and tie-fighter, the elite games ect... there is no point-and-click action, its all based on joystick reactions or mouse and keyboard, the cockpits views are very good, feel good, look good. The main gribe i have with it at the moment is there isn't anywhere to split pvp from pve, when you accept missions, at least for the state of the game where im at anyway you cant complete some of the missions because you only survive for about 10 seconds because of all the high lvl pvp ships that in the same instance as you, you only seem to get a choice of 3 instances for the main missions at the moment but im only a lvl 6 and i've only just got past the beginning so im still trying to figure some things out.
Ship setups and the way you use exuipment and modules is very much like eve fitting is, but its definitely different, like when you upgrade the cockpits sections, only certain ones allow you to mount missile launchers, wing sections allow you to mount certain types of weapons ect.. i dont know if you will be able to get different ships or not, from the looks of it all you do is upgrade your current ship and thats all you can do at this point, but in the introduction part of the game, there was one mission where you are flying a cargo ship, so who knows! but you can paint your ship, tho i couldn't really tell a difference personally.
The visuals really are amazing, and for that a lone you should at least give it a go, i'd reccomend everyone at least try it, it sure as hell wont be for everyone, but i think a lot of people will actually enjoy it a lot, as its only in beta in the U.S we dont have access to the game stop, which is where you actually spend your money if you want to survive in any decent ammount of time in a pvp fight, or get used to insta poped with one shots, i've heard the weapons they you actually buy are extremely powerfull, pvp'ing probably wont be worth it if you dont buy anything from the store.

I think this thread should be about that hot new up-and-comer, Jumpgate Evolution! Remember when they released that gameplay video in '08 as a middle finger to CCP? Wasn't it awesome how they made good on their boast and released the mmo on schedule the very next year and blew CCP out of the water?? -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

That game is doomed because devs decided to sell bugged product to region distributors, banning at the same time half of the europeans from service. F2P arcade, nothing more. Even Tanks have more potency than this.

I beta tested it, and while it was a beautiful game, it was severely lacking in depth. Also there is no risk vs reward pvp really, because you cant loot your victims for all thier crap, which eliminates most of the reason to pvp in the first place. Its like counterstrike rules slapped onto a pve game. Also crafting doesnt seem to have much of a point either. you just upgrade your ships parts and it can take hours or days to do so.

Edited by: JC Anderson on 03/04/2011 08:09:37 I am also part of the closed beta test. I'll point out a few of the reasons why I think the majority of Eve players would be dissapointed by Black Prophecy.
1. It is free to play and will continue being so even after the game goes live to the general public. However, it is entirely based on the rmt mico transaction model. In the games main interface is a little shopping cart button. You can click it to be taken to the "premium" items you can purchase for your character with real money. This includes items which boost skills and whatnot and not just virtual items.
2. Almost everything is instance based. This includes missions both solo and with friends. It is much the same as guild wars in that it warps the group to the instance.
3. PVP is fairly restricted and you are not able to just fire on other players anywhere you go.
4. The choice of ships is limited to small strike craft. The closest you'll ever get to anything larger is by manning ther guns on npc capital ships during instanced missions.

Edited by: Tarasina on 03/04/2011 08:28:55 The game is shallow. It has no market at all, only way to buy/sell is via trading. It has no sort-functionality at all which makes it a pain to find any modules you like.
Pan's junkyard is the first PVP-place but AFAIK, you are not required to go there to advance. And PVP is mostly about someone one-shooting you.
Pve-Missions are rinse/repeat. You have 2 options, shieldtank or hulltank. Hulltank has the advantage that your ship is twice as agile (less amount of time flying around trying to get ships in your crosshair) but shield tank has twice the HP if not more and it regens.
There are sniperguns, med range guns, closerange guns so you can build a ship the way you like.
Lacks depth. It has nothing but pew pew.
I'm at lvl10 so that might change but I doubt it.
Lately the F2P that has caught my attention is LOTRO, Lord of the rings online, it's alot of fun.

I like it... It's basically fast paced space action shooter blah blah blah. Just something completely different.
However, the environment details are stunning. Asteroid and ice belts actually look like they should. CCP could REALLY REALLY learn a few tricks from the Black Prophecy environmental design department. _______________________________________________ "If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack." - Kenshin Himura

Tried it two weeks ago or so. I found it to be pretty much unplayable, it frustrated me to no end - I never made it past the introduction mission(s) before I removed it from my harddrive and vowed never to play it again.

Edited by: Julius Rigel on 03/04/2011 11:32:30 I tried it for a few hours the other day, bu only a few hours, so my experience of the game is quite limited.
My first impressions:
1. CUTSCENES!!! OH MY GOSH SO MANY CUTSCENES!! I'M GOING TO HAVE A STROKE!
2. Combat seems very clunky. I spent a good 40-50 minutes in a millenium-falcon style turret trying to shoot tiny little Tyi fighters (?), and it was really annoying, as the aiming and the camera is linked together rather strangely.
3. The graphics may be high quality or whatever, but I was not impressed with what I saw. It's just so damned red.
4. I did not encounter or ever talk to any players in these few hours of playing. Now I know it's no eve, but even wow let's you experience the MMO part of the MMOG as SoonÖ as you get in-game.
That being said, I only got as far as entering an actual cockpit, which took a good hour of gameplay and cutscenes and such, and I had been flying around in it for 4-5 minutes when the game CTDed.
I promised myself I would come back to it some other time to continue my impressions, but I'm not sure if it will happen any time SoonÖ.
Oh, and, reported.
