seriously not happy with the magnetometric sites... time in scanning.. and we get salvage that we can basically get from any roid rat in high sec... Does anyone know if they plan on reworking this? Make it worthwhile and actually fun to discover a magno site.. as it is i usally say BLARGH! when I find one....

Still should have a "chance" at receiving lucrative items in high sec for the time spent ... but statistically, it should not be as high doing this activity in low or null sec.

Even in null, mag sites don't usually give anything expensive.

High security Mag sites will drop T1 and T2 salvage along with various Tool BPC's for building rigs as well as Mechanic group skillbooks for ship rigging.
So the Mag sites don't drop a lot of loot but they can be easily completed very quickly.
Exploration - It's not just an adventure, it's a job.
Seriously, like a job in real life that gives regular base pay for 40 hrs along with overtime pay and bonus pay.
Regular pay is the Radar and Magnetometric sites. Overtime pay is the Anomaly's, 'Unknown' combat sites and hidden DED Complexes. Bonus pay is the Commander NPC spawns at Anomaly's, DED complexes and combat sites along with the Expeditions gained from those.
As an Explorer, you're an 'Independent Contractor' going from system to system doing your job for regular pay, always looking for overtime pay and hope for bonus pay.
You could even look at the area you do exploration in as a company. Some will have lot's of work available while others barely have any. The trick is to find a few areas or companies that have a lot of work available and make those your dedicated routes which should keep you very busy.
The 'Tools of the Trade' are high exploration skill levels and top equipment with your ship set up to quickly scan and complete the various exploration sites 'On the Fly' without having to switch ships or refit very often.
That's how I view exploration. I enjoy it because I'm always busy and I make some very good isk from it. Other than that I don't know what else to say except:
Exploration - It's not just an adventure, it's a job.

I don't know where folks get that lo-sec mag sites are worth the time, maybe I'm unlucky. My experience is that they're barely better than hi-sec sites.

One thing - Mag sites is hardest to pinpoint - but in HiSec they ALWAYS not worth it! I have not seen any T2 salvage or ANY books or bpcs in HiSec. In low sec rarely there are mag sites worth of 100 - 200m.

Usually I just skip mag and radar sites, I farm low sec for combat sites.
I have run low sec mag and radar sites, but I find its just not worth the effort.

Grabbed 50m from a single RADAR site in high sec more than once so far. 50m for 5 minutes scanning in a 0.8 system? Lucky, but I'll take it. Especially for RADAR sites most often most of the "work" is already done once you pinned it down. So I'd grab the loot even if it's just 1m for the one additional warp.

Well, then you and others are really unlucky when it comes to doing high security exploration along with getting loot drops from Mag sites. Either that or you all are calling me a liar.
I've found that there's a few Grav and Radar sites that are the toughest to get 100% lock. The Mag sites, along with w-holes, seem real easy to lock down. The usual amount of isk made from high security Mag sites is 1 to 2 million. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Not to mention the Mag sites are really easy to complete and there's a lot more of those sites compared to Radar.
As I've already stated in this thread, I mainly do high sec exploration and I scan down and complete all small Anomaly's, Radar, Mag, DED plexes and 'Unknown' combat sites I find. I also give bookmarks of Grav sites to a team of Orca/Hulk players who usually give me 5 to 10 mill isk donation for those. My average amount of isk per hour made from doing high security exploration is 50 to 75 million. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Let me repeat that - my average amount of isk made per hour doing high security exploration = 50 to 75 million.
So, go ahead and continue to by-pass those sites, that just leaves more for me to complete. And if anyone doubt's the statements I've made in this thread, you're welcome to contact me in-game and tag along with me in one of my less profitable routes to see for yourself.

Quick question about ship fits. I just started with exploration and do the scanning in a Buzzard but always need to switch in a cruiser for doing the sites. Are their any ship fits and ideas around for all-in-one dedicated exploration ships?

I love Mag sites - I made .. get this .... 11,000 isk from the last one I scanned down.
FML
I'm also interested in the best 'all in one' ship for exploration as scanning down in ship x and then getting ship y is a real pain in the backside (especially when you only get 11k isks worth of kentucky fried circuits and a couple of barrels of contaminated goops for your trouble).

The real benefit of a mag site is that it's basically a combat site with a few extra rewards. And again, get out of hi sec.

Then why do radars pay wayyyyyyyyyyy more? I think thats the point. Its not like burger king pays $20USD an hour and McDonalds pays minimum wage. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

It doesn't matter since you're running both of them.
With exploring you take what you can get. You won't have a constant supply of radar sites so you'll need to do mags and plexes as well and hope you get lucky. Exploration isn't a get rich quick scheme. Since it's based on RNG you have to do it continuously in order to maximize your chances of getting rare stuff. One low-sec system doesn't guarantee good loot, but you can't go through 10 low sec systems without making at least 100m.

Any strategic cruiser can be fit with more tank, more tank, and better scanning than a Pilgrim. The pilgrim will, however, cost 1/3 the price (or less, if you pimp your T3).
