Hi all!
I used to mess with PI with my alt (6 months ago) but since it go unsubed i didn't tried the new system. I finally decided to train some skills in my main to try it again and i'm unsure which skills are really "needed" at level 5.
I have all skills at level 4 at the moment, Command Center Upgrades is mandatory at level 5? Yesterday i checked the market and we don't have different Command centers like some months ago, how it works now? Any other skills worth to maximize the profit? Interplanetary Consolidation?
Thanks!

Yes, I would say Command Center Upgrades should be at V in my opinion. True there aren't different types of Command Centers now. Currently, the more higher level in Command Center Upgrades you have the more CPU and powergrid that your Command Center can have, hence the more extractors, silos and general upgrades you will be able to make.

You want command center V and all the rest IV.

Dont you need Planetology at V to get advanced Planetology?
Or is that just a useless skill?
And you could probably take the Interplanetary consolodation skill to V as well to get an extra command center.

You only need planetology IV for advanced planetology, how much getting these to V benefits you is a question but I've been doing fine with both skills IV so far. Interplanetary consolidation V gives you a sixth planet to control which may or may not be of use to you. However Command center upgrades V is a must as it allows you to have 2 x full extractors and 2 x spaceports on a single planet or a single full extractor and tons of factories and space ports.

Well, Interplanetary consolidation V might be good aswell to maximize the profit. Doesn't hurt to have one more planet :)

I find I only need to upgrade my CC to level 3 or so... it completely depends on the amount of processing you plan to do and the amount of resources the planet has to offer.

You obviously are lucky enough to have never built anything on a gas planet.

CCU & IC to V and the rest to IV. This allows max planets and the grid needed to run a closed P2 production line on a single planet with minimum effort. And ignore the 2 launch pad idea mentioned. You need:
1 x command centre (this is not linked to anything) 1 x spaceport 2 x extractors for 2 different products (linked to spaceport) 6 x basic with 3 each making 2 x P1 products (linked to spaceport) 3 x advanced combining the P1 products to produce the P2 item (linked to spaceport)
IÆm using high yield planets, so I always have enough P0 and P1 products at IV so there is no waiting time on the advanced units. With CCU at V, you should free enough grid to allow sufficient heads to hit the 18000 an hour yield even in high sec
And the reason you donÆt need 2 spaceports is because even with this running a week and you managing your P0 input so you keep the P1 at a sensible sustained level, you will not fill a single one. And you have 25k storage in the customs, so again itÆs a waste of grid

Edited by: Baneken on 13/04/2011 11:55:44 FYI you minimum extraction per head on a good planet is 180-200+ per cycle to get both of your extractors working full power you need two space-ports, one for each extractor head but shipping unprocessed stuff from a planet is definitely a waste of ISK I agree on that.
Hence best option is usually a one extractor with space-port and some processors, end product is then shipped to your factory planet. at least that's how I handle my POS-fuel production. edit: You can run more extractors with less extractor heads but hotspots of both resources are rarely close enough to each other for it to be a good idea to use just one space port for both imho.

Disagree strongly with this 2 spaceport build for the example of producing P2 in a closed system on one planet
For 3 basic for each P1, you need 18000 units of P0 an hour for each of the 2 products. This produces 20 P1 every + hour for the 40 needed an hour for the advanced. As your getting 120 units total from the 2 different process basics, this means 3 advanced. You will not be able to build this with 2 spaceports, lvl IV CCU and still have 3/4 heads per extractor unit. Could you even build the second extractor??
That said, still do not see the need for a second spaceport even if you free the grid up with CCU V as this extra should be used more wisely. As mentioned, you can manage your production such that you donÆt go into excess of the P0 in the spaceport as you only need to have some spare as your yield drops over the time period youÆve allocated. The freed grid should allow more heads as the yields drop whilst still allowing you to balance a safe minimum stored P0 to sustain the P1. In the event of poor yield of one or even both of the P0, the grid allows more heads to continue the balance
IÆm producing in a WH, so I know I have more yield than in HS, yet I still have to decommission an advanced (cr4p game mechanic as should be able to remove link and it drops from the grid/CPU requirement) to free the grid for more heads, especially on a gas planet. CCU V is soon on my training queue to fix this. So if IÆm struggling with the resources available on some, then a HS farmer must need the grid for heads and not a redundant spaceport. There is enough storage in one for me to empty weekly with still plenty of room to spare. And the customs is huge. I may have mentioned that already. Why would you need more?
I can see how your working in producing P1 on one planet and then hauling to another to combine for the P2 product, but is this really the best way when it can all be done on one? You must be extracting little or nothing from your factory planet which to me is a waste of a planet and not efficient which means less isk

I make more ISK per planetmonth running production networks over multiple planets than confining networks to a single planet. Feel free to build your own data sets though, as length of the extractor jobs may be an important factor. ------------- Do not speak- unless it improves on silence. |

It's a process which has to be done quickly since I feed a POS with PI, otherwise I could gather stuff with lower yield, it's just more efficient to grab as much junk as you can and stuff it to as many processors on a single planet as you can.
I of c. only transfer t2 products when I can never an "unfinished raw material" but yes I could also make some stuff to further tiers then 2 on the planets I just find it more convenient to have all the factories on a single planet for end production and rip the planets as clean as I can and then haul stuff to a "production planet".
I don't claim my method is the best I just find it more convenient for my production schedules.
