I press TAB over and over to close and open to see if it can fix itself but it doesnt. Ive reloged many times and that did not help.
Basically I pressed something around the gang section on the overview thing then the bug appeared. The scanner windows are all out of place. I can see my dronebay though so I can launch those fine. But the actual overview where all the ships should show up, doesnt open up at all. This is a real problem as it is hard to target a specific target

I had this problem last nite and relogging didnt help and neither did deleting all items in my cache folder except the settings folder and prefs.ini . In the end I managed to fix it by deleting the DAT files in the settings folder named Char_, pc, user_(some number), and user_ . This fixed it for me but I dunno if u need to delete all these dats or just 1 or 2. Hope this helps it's a v.annoying bug

I have this too, ******* stupiud you have to delete all the files in a folder to fix. No doubt more lazy coding on ccps part. Get it sorted fs.

It is STUNNING but not suprising that CCP has failed to fix this bug after at least 2 years.
3 people had this happen to them on our operation tonight.
CCP... you need to fire somebody. I don't care who, just make it somebody with a wife and kids to feed. That would motivate those drinking coffee and smoking all day to actually get off their duffs and fix these long standing issues.
Meanwhile.
You only need to delete one file. It is the 'char_[enter your char number].dat'
To find your char number do the following. (I am sure there is an easy and faster way but this works)
Find your settigns folder. Should be here in XP: C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE
If you can't see it, check out your tools drop down menu, then folder options/view tab and set "show hidden files and folders" radio button.
1. Rename your settings directory to settingsbak 2. Log into eve with the afflicted charactor. 3. Log out of eve and check the brand new settings directory. 4. Note the ONLY char_[your user number here].dat file. This is the file that pertains to the account yo ujust logged in. 5. Copy the rest of the files back minus that screwed up one.
Now you can log into eve and fiddle about setting up all your windows and overview crap.
NOW LISTEN UP!
One you are happy with the changes... go back to your settings directory and make a BACKUP of that file so you can simply copy the file over the screwed up one and only have to make minimal changes.
YOU MUST DO THIS BECAUSE THE CHANCES OF CCP EVER FIXING THIS IS ABOUT THE SAME AS THE SECOND COMING OF THE LORD.
You are welcome. Yet again the COMMUNITY has to come up with a crappy work around to compensate for pitiful coding and debuging.
Sad.

Deleting the char file alone doesnt fix it. - - - Originally by: CCP Garthagk While these forums may not give you everything that you want, they will usually let you post.

Did for me.
Perhaps you failed to delete the correct char file.

Yea I came up with about 5 new files. I tried messing with the user__XXXXXX file and the char__XXXXX files individually, but eventually I had to use the above method and it gave me new copies of these files:
char__XXXXXX.dat char__.dat pc.dat user__XXXXXX.dat user__.dat
could have been any one of those 5, but they were the source of the problem. - - - Originally by: CCP Garthagk While these forums may not give you everything that you want, they will usually let you post.

I found that:
char__.dat pc.dat user__.dat
Were universal for all my other accounts, while
char__XXXXXX.dat user__XXXXXX.dat
Were specific for the account that got bugged. So elimination of just those two did the trick and I left the others alone.
Not sure what all the others do. I assume it retains login in names , and records if you have seen movie etc on each account login.

Has anyone tried to shrink the columns in the overview? When I did this, it fixed it for me. No files to delete.

Bump the Truth
My version of this bug was also fixed by replacing the whole settings folder with a 5 day old version.
I've been backing it up since every patch I fear the same $*%(&* we've gone through again and again.
My version of the bug was like part of the overview was behind the rest and inaccesable - reboot did not help - diff char found to be same even though was fine when last played.
So everybody - back up your settings folder
Vista -
C:\Users\xxYour_Name_herexx\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE
goodluck if you don't
Hey CCP - The Overview is a mess and over crowded with Objects in Space Manuveurs or target Gang - Fleet - Squad Drones Broadcasts
all in one indivisable stack ?? and then it jams :( PLEASE FIX

Wow, backed up my files and did this. And then promptly undid it. I think I have a backup somewhere, as there is no way I'm going through all the work to fix this. Even if I have to personally call CCP to complain, someone is going to tell me exactly what part of that file to edit to get rid of JUST the problem, and not every other ingame setting I have.

Edited by: Laramis Behr on 26/11/2007 22:41:51 I'll add my gripe to the list! I have to figure out how to do all of that stuff mentioned above, just so I can play this game properly again? bah! It turns out I do not have a ccp/eve folder in my documents/owner/application data folder. So I guess I have to uninstall eve and reinstall the client? Hundreds of bookmarks wasted. This is a tragedy!

I realize that this is not the end-all, be-all solutions, but for people with the bug shown in the above screenshot, refer to
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=643452
If the problem is affecting the area for ships, but drones work fine, open the drones, and pull that all the way down offscreen as mentioned in the referenced thread, then open the top overview window. It's a bit of a shot in the dark, but can't hurt to try and is approx. 1 hell of a lot easier than altering settings. again, i hope this can help some of you, at least.

Found one. Log in with bugged character while looking in the CCP\EVE\Settings file and check Date Modified (next to size) when you log in it will update the file, and you will know which ones to delete by whichever one is most up to date. This way you dont have to mess with other folders'n'such.

This happened to me today. Im always gonna have a backup settings file now.
To fix it you need to delete one file. The character you had a problem with's user DAT file. For example: user_2074360.dat
Back up your settings file first so that if you delete the wrong one you can put it back, so that your other chars arent affected. If you do it this way you wont lose your bookmarks, YAY. But you will lose all your overview settings, including overview selection types :(
