Edited by: Bloodpetal on 06/04/2011 19:47:16 Limited to 50 fittings is ATROCIOUS design the way it's implemented.
SIMPLE SOLUTION :
Add a drop down list for :: Personal Server Fittings Personal Local Fittings Corporation Fittings
------
50 Fittings? You think that's enough? How about the horrible user interface problem of trying to SAVE a NEW fitting and having to now go back to your FITTINGS to delete one... only to try and load new ones?
Really, server fittings are fine, but you catered to a small group of whiny twinks that can't be bothered to back up their hard drives to make us all be restricted to 50 user fittings?
Come on...
All I'm asking for is a 3rd drop down option that worked JUST LIKE BEFORE for local fittings, so I can now manage local fittings and saved server fittings separately.
Thanks for the feature, really CCP - but please, you really made this a pain in the ass... fix this ASAP.
____
P.S. Why didn't this go to SiSi server for input from the Player base? we didn't get a chance to player test this and give feedback, I'm sure this input would have been resolved immediately.

Definitely needs some UI love. Being able to preview the fits from the import screen will help too.

Only 50 fittings saved total?
Really?
Couldn't this saving of fittings on the server been simply added to the system that was already in place rather than replace it?
I'll take unlimited saved fittings stored locally, thank you.

Requires 3 design implementations :
New Drop down option New Button Option in Fitting Save Window Add perfectly working feature as it was 1 day ago.

You can't use them though, can you? You can't load them? Essentially, they're TOTALLY USELESS on the XML file, and you can't get to them at all. The only way to get to them is to DELETE, MANUALLY the other 50 FITTINGS so that you can get to the ones that you want.
Guess what? Useless. ____________________________________________________

I think itÆs a great idea that the fittings are saved on the server as I use a PC at home and then when I go to work or go out I use my laptop, used to constantly export to xml and then copy across every time I make a change.
But totally agree 50 fittings is no way enough! It may be ok for the newer players that donÆt have many ships but when you have multiple ships and different setups for different situations it is no way enough, just as an example I have around 10 different setups just for my Drake! And thatÆs not including the other 20 or so ships I have, please please please increase to it to at least 200 or more.

I had 100 Fittings, and they were not lost, but 50 of them are totally inaccessible, and thus useless.
And if I even wanted to get to them, guess what? I can't without a huge hassle to my self, and there's no way to manage them in a reasonable fashion.
So, why can't they give you BOTH types of fittings saved? Works the same way, requires just a few adjustments, and gets us what we all want. ____________________________________________________

àAnd because the old forums are opened again for the time being, I'm going to bump this topic because the Devs never responded to the one in the new forums. Also adding from the new forums posts that a lot of people are not able to get fittings to transfer to the server; checking off the fittings to transfer and clicking 'OK' does nothing. The window jut sits there, ignoring you. Because of this, it won't allow you to access the fitting manager at all, even ones you've saved to the server from linked fits from chat or messages. Unsure if this is just on Mac or not, though.

My first thought after experiencing this cluster vuck was to make it a zipped backup to server side function. (eventually all eve GUI settings) Having it as a compressed file uploaded to the server side would address possible CCP concerns for storage real estate (why they limited it to 50?). It'd backup the fittings server side easily (why CCP did this in the first place?). Fittings could be available from any computer you could log in at. (stated reason why CCP did this). And this solution would leave the production fittings files client side for all the benefits that we all know already.
My main toon has ~56 fittings, that's about 75k when exported to xml. When zipped using windoz compress file option - its 8k ! My god .. it's full of stars ! |

This deserves a billion bumps. Isn't it funny how CCP answers all the posts people make about Character Portrait issues, or the "I can't get my pants to tuck into my boots" crap, but they don't respond to this more important problem. Typical really.

Edited by: robohunterx on 11/04/2011 00:37:08 I was just getting ready to post something similar to this.
1. This feature dosen't even work for me, I attempt to select 50 fittings, and press ok. Nothing? 2. I end up going back and selecting one bloody fitting at a time, that's the only way it'll save. 3. My Friend lost all of their fittings due to screwy interface, and down right idiotic feature design.
I was overly excited about this feature, but it turns out CCP is going backwards AGAIN. Please bump this entire thread into CCP's face. RoboHunterX |

Guys...
You know what doesn't make sense?
You have uliminted server-side notes that are text files that take up more size than a fitting file.
Does this make sense to you that you can make a few thousand notes or make that insane like a 1MB data of notes, you can do it. That would be over 9000 fittings probably.
CCP you make no sense what the f--ck is up with these dumb unnecessary restrictions?

These files should be incredibly small why do we need such a low limit.
I get 7 GB of space with a gmail account for FREE.
With eve I get 50 fittings and I'm paying them $15 a month.
Now for some reference compare say free television with subscribed television.
Anyone notice anything wrong with this? ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker

To be fair, CCP is not Google, and Google makes exponentially more in advertising revenue than CCP does from monthly fees. You cannot expect CCP to have the resources to allow for that kind of storage capacity given the added system cost of data redundancy and so on. I could see CCP allotting 512kB-1MB of space for fitting storage per player though; in the most extreme case, it would probably take no more than 1TB of redundant, high-speed storage.

Really, I almost never even bother using the fitting panel, knowing that I can't save over my maximum, and the thought of having to go back and delete a fitting is painful.

Quote: [18:49:41] Salamaar > so how do i save mine cause I still can't figure it out
So, not only are people totally confused, lost, and annoyed.
I'm still really angry. I'm trying to export a fitting I want to save for future, to play with in EFT without having to rebuild it from scratch, and guess what? I have to delete a fitting. What? Why.
So, now, I have to delete a fitting, to save a fitting, to export a fitting to save for later so I can only wait to upload a fitting to save a fitting to reupload the fitting...
This is very "backwards" *Thanks censor*, I am very annoyed and angry at poor design implemented here.
Read at my first post and do this please. ____________________________________________________

Edited by: Soden Rah on 14/04/2011 00:31:34 Assuming a limit is actually required, 50 is a pathetically low number of fittings.
Assuming 1 mill users (300k+ accounts with 3 chars each) with 2kB (rounded UP size of single saved fitting on my computer) per fitting .xml and 50 fittings per character thats 100 mill KB or 100GB storage required. Single hard drive's of 1TB+ storage are comparatively cheap, as you well know as your recent blogs indicate you have quite a few. This one HDD (ok two for raid) would allow 10 times as many fittings per user and this is assuming every single char on every single account has max number of fittings.
If your too cheap to provide us with server side storage space for AT LEAST 500 fittings per char, (there are over 50 t1 subcaps, let-alone ORE, faction, t2, t3. so 500 is way less than 10 fittings per ship before you get to cap ships.) then don't implement a system that limits us to 50 with almost no real benefit (export/import from one computer to another is pretty easy to do) with no advanced warning of that limit.
Please use one of the many suggested fixes that means you don't nerf one of the best usability updates of recent years.
