I'm pleased to announce that the new EVE gladiator and wagering gaming service, Maximum Games, is now online. This site is meant to work best in your in-game browser, so check it out there at www.maximumgames.com!
Our first matches will begin this week, and I'll post updates here on that info as well as on the website, which is being updated constantly. We are still looking for a few more gladiators. Please spread the word, we'll have a special opening day with prizes for participants, gamblers, and spectators! Get in tough with "Oriox" or "Diziet DeWar" in-game if you have any questions, or post here.
Finally, keep an eye out for our EVE Casino at www.e-games.com coming soon! Thanks. |

Update - We've made some updates to the website (www.maximumgames.com) with new info, and we'll be doing further updates throughout the week! Lots of positive response and people wanting to bet, and we'd like to have our first matches Thursday through Sunday of this week, but we need more gladiator participants. If you'd be interested please get in touch with me here or in-game.
We've also had reports of some people having trouble opening the site through the in-game browser. We are working to correct this asap, but until then most people should be able to open it in-game (make sure to accept the security thing), and if you have trouble everyone should be able to open it in IE/whatever you use out of game. Thanks.

Update -- More info has been added to the site (www.maximumgames.com); also, we've scheduled our first matches for this weekend. We're still looking for more gladiators to participate! Contact me ("Oriox") in-game with questions or to sign up please. I'll be making another update for those who want to wager later in the week when the gladiators have been finalized. |

hhmmm I think most potenial gladiators aint joining because they need to join your corp during the event, prehaps there is a way that they still fight each other without the need of join your corp?

Yes, this has certainly been an issue, and if anyone knows of a way around this that would allow matches in high-sec space that would be wonderful.
Currently however, temporarily joining the corp (even if its just for the few hours of the matches) is the only option, since attempting to hold the fights in 0.0 presents far worse problems with interferance, etc.
We are still working on getting a decent group together for this weekend--I'll be recruiting today especially in areas likely to have non-corped pilots. |

Unless you can make the Dev's do what you want before tomorrow, ganging does not allow sparring.
We've had a great interest in betting, but very few comfirmed gladiators! Unfortunately many people who want to fight do not wish to leave their current corp, even temporarily. As it stands, we still have no way to get around this save holding the contest in 0.0 space, which present even more difficult issues.
I'll update again late Friday on the status of the event. If we do not have more confirmed (not just "maybe I can make it") participants by then, the games will be canceled for this weekend and indefinately until we have enough gladiators. |

a solution would be dev team sponsered events at x times each week gladiators could sign up - perhaps a system within the game could be activated with a key given to particpating players - now in x system in the game map a new jump gate would appear and it would lead to a system that is unaccessible at all other times - you would have to actiate the key code then jump in and hte fun would begin - it could be a permanent gate even in a high sec system but would only be activated just prior to the gladiator tournament beginning and it could be called gladiator system (idea for the dev team)

Hehe, yes, it would be nice if the Dev team decided to do all that for us :-)
But since that is very unlikely and since we didn't have enough pilots sign up as gladiators, the games are canceled for now.
We're adopting a new strategy to recruit gladiators to see if it works any better; that is, recruiting corp members who will be urged to participate as gladiators (instead of recruiting gladiators who may/may not stay as corp members).
This process might take several weeks, or might not work at all, but I'll post again next week sometime with a status update. |

Very impressed with how you managed to integrate the site into the game, i.e. showed my character name on the welcome screen and linked the mailto: to the EVE-mail. Nice work.

Great idea! Sorry to see it hasn't worked out yet. I was actually thinking about it the other day that eve should have some sort of arena battle system implemented in the game somehow. Guess you were a little ahead of me. And hey, I'm corpless at the moment, maybe I'll be be a gladiator guinea pig. I know I'm bored stiff doing missions. Hmm, have to think about it..

If you could work out a means to meet expenses you could try maybe having the gladiators corps declaring wars.
Course that would probably mean a tree like structure different from what you had in mind before for the combatants and wouldn't be cheap for anyone involved.

At this point, we are looking into two possibilities for the games. First, and the one which we are currently using, is simply corp recruitment. So anyone who is looking for a corp *and* is interested in participating can sign on with us, and once we have enough members the games will go ahead.
The other option is to merge with an already established corp, and form a gladiator division. We haven't looked into this option much yet, but would consider it. As always, I'll keep things updated here. |

I might soon be looking for a new corp. and this gladiatorial combat is very interesting. I am fairly new though, so I also need people that I can, how do you say it, lean on?
What exactly would I have to do to join your corp. and become a gladiator?

This is a really neat idea and I would love to see this actually take off. I have a suggestion or 2 though. First of all I think you should talk to an alliance in order to get a 0.0 system for this. It would be alot easier to do the battles and people could stay with thier respective corps. It would definatly require some planning and cooperation on thier part but I think alot of peeps would be more willing to participate if they didn't have to join another corp just to compete.
