Hey you
Just started on this game, and got some questions about the ship choice and weapon systems :)
first what i want to do int his game is partly pve missions/wormholes and partly some smallgang pvp maybe some nullsec pvp too,
i have been looking at both the minnmatar and caldari ships and i am at odds at what to train for (first) the minmatar got some cool looking ships, and they seem to perform nicely (i have so little experiance that my opinion dosent really count) but the caldari .. missiles are cool ;)
so just looking for some help/advice on how to awoid some mistakes that would make my training a waste of time
anny help is recieved :)

Alt spotted. Also like the purposefully used typos, it's endearing.

Caldari and missiles is very good for PVE and is fairly easy as missiles will always hit if in range, so all you need to do is to use the right kind of missile for the target. The Drake BC has been FOTM for quite some time now due to its amazing tanking ability.
Minmatar is especially good for PVP due to their speed and capless weapons. Not bad for PVE but not my first choice.
If you want to do wormholes don't specialize in Gallente drone ships as drones are terrible vs sleepers. ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

In general, not very well. Missiles are more or less dodgeable in many situations and they tend to have signatures the size of the moon, making them hittable with a wider array of weapon sizes. Shield tanks (the preferred defense for Caldari) have also fallen into disfavor both because armor RR is a bit easier and the aforementioned sig balloons.
More specifically, the Drake is pretty popular, it's about as close as you get to a heavy tank in pvp without resorting to a BS, and it's an OK solo pvp ship... but otherwise it takes some clever fitting to make Caldari ships suitable for pvp (outside of stealth bombers, of course, which are awesome for every race).
Even more specifically, if you're obsessed with range the Ferox is the only real sniper ship left around and has the most extreeeeeeeme range.
For flavor of the month "hard to do it wrong" pvp boats, stick with Minmatar, their weapons are the most forgiving in terms of range and their speed tends to run high, making them handy if you're not sure what you're doing yet. If you're trending toward heavier ships (BC/BS) in PvP Amarr is pretty nice too. If you're trending REALLY heavy (basically only battleships, ever) then the most flexible, all around meanest BS is the Gallente's Dominix, though you'll probably want to avoid gallente PvP outside the small size category otherwise as a new player. Blasters tend to be hard mode for most people. ---

Caldari's good up to BS range, Amarr and Minmatar are good all around. Gallente have some very nice ships up to BS (Dominix being the most used in the BS department.)
If you want a good race that will have good ships in every area, go with Amarr or Minmatar.

wtf?
Sig ballooning is a complete nonissue compared to how armor tanks reduce your speed and align time. Missiles are also the LEAST dodgeable weapon system in the game aside from maybe drones. Only missiles are equally effective at point blank and well out to their max range. If something's small/fast enough to take reduced damage from your missiles, then it's also small/fast enough to not be tracked by an equivalent turret.
OP: I started minmatar and crosstrained Caldari specifically for PVP. Caldari are great for it. Even if the other posters were correct (and they're not), EVE's balance changes with every major patch.
Every time the game's balance changes there's a slew of forum threads that go like this: "Goddamnit CCP, I spent the last <so many months> training for <ship/race> and now you've nerfed it. <So many months of training> down the drain. can I have my SP reimbursed?"

I think you must be new here.
This is most certainly NOT the case.

Caldari excel here, although there's always viable alternatives. The fact that missiles have long range and no optimal/falloff makes them really easymode. You can do most L3 (Drake) and L4 (Tengu) semi-afk with FoF missiles - although it's not that fast. All the Raven variations are also used a lot in L4 missions. But Gallente (drone boats) and Minmatar also have some excellent mission ships. Amarr is the least versatile here, they're VERY good against EM (thermal) weak rats but not so good vs the rest as all laser types only do EM/thermal damage.
Quote: smallgang pvp
Minmatar have the widest choice here from the best frigates to versatile battleships, Amarr have some good advanced cruisers and high damage battleships, Gallente have a few nice ones too, Caldari has Drakes and a range of ECM (jamming) boats but not a lot of other small gang ships.
Quote: nullsec pvp
If you mean small gangs like in lowsec, see above. Big 0.0 battles: you ship is more or less determined what your FC wants you to fly and usually it's sheer numbers that determine the outcome. Amarr have good battleships and HACs, the Drake is also popular atm, the Minmatar Maelstrom has the single best alpha (volley) damage.
So well most races are viable, Caldari excels in PvE and ECM, Minmatar has a nice allroud fast ship line, Amarr has the best looking ships and Gallente have drones.

My mistake. Guess Amarr ships still suck and Gallente blasterboats with their 90% webs are still FotM, right?
