Bigger is better and I'm not talking about ships.
I've been playing eve for 6 years now and lately I can't seem to be able to motivate myself to do anything else anymore but chat. Eve for me is now more a social environment than a game. I can't say that I have done everything there is to do in Eve nor that I've been atleast once in every system there is (although I've seen the majority) but why is it that Eve doesn't appeal to me the way it used to I asked myself...
The thing I came up with is this; I miss the sense of exploration. The excitement of flying into the unknown to find something new. Nowadays every system, every mission, anything in Eve is documented/charted. Even the Wspace is more or less. Back in 2003/2004 there was no tutorial. I was dropped in space and had to find everything out myself. I loved it! I miss it! Now, there's people everywhere and there's not much dynamics in the game anymore. It's the same scams in high-sec local each day. The same old power blocks fighting over the same old regions over and over again. The same missions in a new coat.
In my opinion we need more space! It's too bloody crowded! If Eve was atleast 4 times it's size, preferably with other means of travel to the new space than stargates (dynamic spawned portals or something like that perhaps), then venturing into 'unknown' space would bring back some of that excitement of not knowing what to expect.
Something like Wspace I'd say but then entire constelations or regions of it. Preferably uncharted and not vissible on any map. No resources except for ice, ore and planets, no faction rats but perhaps some other race there to exploit. Back to basics....
Occupying space like that would mean huge efforts finding routes there. Ferrying hardware over etc. should take long and be a pain but it would open possibilities to really start your own empire from scratch in a distant hard to reach place where Isk would have no value as there's no place to make any or spend it. A pilot, corp or alliance would (once again) have to bring control towers from empire over vast distances to be able to refine and build stuff etc. and industrialists would be needed to actually build something up. Small gang and solo pvp would flourish as it would be too much of a pain (or even impossible) to get an entire alliance to such a remote region. (would need control tower clone bay module though)
In other words;
I'd love to fly around in some desolate region, discovering some ancient structure left by civilizations long gone. I'd love to find a spot where a small group of people could start building a home from scratch.
Anyway... I hope I make sense... discuss

I like. ive wanted it for a while.
I think the primary hurdle for CCP to add such a thing is the servers abilities to handle so many players on a single shard. And to have so many spread over so many systems is a considerable challenge. Of course having people more spread out would help combat local system lag BUT...
Adding enough systems to regain the "big" feel of EVE would probably add more load than the 1000+ users in a single system they periodically experience now. And even with 500-1000 more systems in EVE, the blobs would still exisit so the load on the servers will only go up no matter what.
In order to purchase the Server farm they would need for such a game, they need more income, and for more income, they should really address some of the issues that prevent people from staying with or trying out EVE, that is the gigantic learning curve and the complete lack of any truly safe place to stay (save for being docked).
I know CCP promotes piracy and thats fine, but even a small area where a player is safe will allow newbs to learn the game without getting ganked in their rookie ship. While we will all miss the LOLz and the tears, CCP gaining a larger user base should benefit all of us if they can expand the size of our little sandbox in the end.

I can see both sides.. it's harder to make something better AND bigger at the same time.. maybe when CCP has an intermittent period where they can make EVE bigger they'll do it.
