Miners complaining about ore theft are just greedy.
Corporations and team play are an established part of the game mechanic. Form up with other players, some mine, some haul in industrials. Consider leaving 1.0 space and mining in lower sec and having a defence ship. Not only would you make more profit but you'd have some fun.
Hiding in 1.0, mining with apocs into jet cans - you shouldnt expect CCP to cater to you with 'lockable' jet cans.
Ore thievery is a viable business for new players and alts needing minerals for their mains.
Also, knowing a fair few ore thieves, I know they dont take ore from new players mining into a jet can in a frig with 1 miner II. They take the minerals from Thorax and Apocs sat there with miner II's and harvesters and a couple of 100k+mineral cans by them. - players with experience and time in game to know better and organise safe guards to combat the theft in the first place.
This topic has been done to death already. we know miners dont like ore thieves, but you're all well aware of how to counteract it without complains to ccp.
This topic should be locked :P

I take all of those points, but I do have a couple of questions for you:
1. How does complaining about somebody stealing property that you have worked for make you greedy?
2. How is using an alt to feed a main character any better?

Edited by: starfox2004 on 07/02/2005 11:52:06 Im with Vargh !
Why dont people use secure cans ? 1.0 is no more safer than 0.8 ! i think its people being greedy and lazy ! they use jet can mining cos of the 27500m3 instead of 3900m3 (secure can)! what would they do for mining if the capacity was 3900m3 in a jetted can !?! Bingo thats right they'd travel to 0.8 and use secure cans ! Hence the whiners are Greedy, Lazy and just plain stupid !

hmm good point... why are jet can that big anyways? Is it for when loot is dropped from destroyed ships? if so the should make different cans for that and put jet cans to the size of ur cargo hold...
Well theres my opinion anyways... -----------

I mine frequently in higher sec space and use jet cans.
I have also been the target of ore thieves, most of whom have offered to sell me my ore back at reasonable prices.
Fact of the matter is that if im solo mining in my mining barge with modulated strip miners I can pull in more than a fully kitted out apoc. There fore if a guy in ahauler pops up, take 5km3 and flies off again i know damn well ive made that back in the next 6 minutes.
Risk is part of the game guys, get over it already.

easy to say get over it when your mining in an apoc or large barge.
We are a small corp just starting out and don't have access to that kind hardware.
I also didnt realise that this would turn out to be such a boring waste of a thread, still I will know better next time.

This justifies the greed.
Go away baby thief.
Oh yeah, we greedy miners make the economy so nice. You thiefs don't do crap to help this. If the game was 95% thiefs and griefers then who would want to play?

NONE....they hide in NPC corps.
I've read every imaginable thread about this crappy issue, and I will agree that Corps shouldn't be running a mining op with Apocs in 1.0 or .9 systems because these should be for the new players.
But stealing is freakin' stealing I don't care what country you live in (RL) or what damn game you play. It is wrong so stop trying to justify it with your B.S. excuses.
Mining is BOOORRRING.....okay....there should be a great reward at the end of the day.
Murderers ganking noobs in low security is tolerable by my, because I know where they are, and I don't go there. It is avoidable, and the murderers can do what they like there, I don't really care.
Notice my play on Thieves and Murderers because these are totally different than "Pirates". I believe Pirates have some honor to them, even though most of them have left the game since the beginning.
Now...I'm going to petition CCP for the 10 minutes of my life that I lost ranting on this thread.

CCP should make it so jet can have the same amount of hold of your ship.. i thnk that came out right... i.e. An Armageddon jettions a can... it jet hold is 600m3, the same as ts hold because ur basicaly jettioning your hold so why have it so big. and when a ship is destroyed it should hav a 'loot can' with the exact amount of m3 need to hold evey thing that survived the distruction.. theres a simple plan... miners are forced to use secure cans and can pw protect their ****
P.S sry f there is any spelling mistakes -----------

I think the existing cans are good, because whilst they enable a player to successfully mine ore at a reasonable rate, they also introduce an element of risk from theft. And as stated above, simple mining security with haulers in empire or a defence ship once you drop below 0.5, encourages team play which actually increases profit when done properly. Also, those that risk solo bs mining in low sec open themselves up to the risk of ore ransoming.. another player class is created - the pirate. My original post was aimed at those that complain about ore theft, when the security measures to counteract it are already there on offer. Joining alliances or corps and mining in a team for example.

As usual: there appear to be more threads about miners complaining about ore theft than there are probable actual threads by miners complaining about ore theft.
What the people here and in other threads that flame the miners always fail to answer is:
What is the risk to the Ore Thief?
Most experienced miners are aware of ore thiefs and are frustrated by the fact that the ore thiefs can get away with it without any risk at all.

Ore theft is a fine profession for an character who is playing Evil IF, and ONLY IF, he uses his main and/or makes sure his victims know who his main is and can hunt him.
There are some sad pathetic whiny worms in this game that harm other players in a manner where the victim can NEVER even TRY to strike back in a meaningful way.
NOTHING is more cowardly, pathetic. Such worms are happy to strike at other character's main characters, but are terrified at the thought that someone might strike at their main character.
Do evil in Eve?? No problem.
Do evil in Evil where the victim can NEVER even TRY and strike back in a meaningful way? BIG problem. In fact, such worms are NOT playing Eve, because that are not engaged in PvP. They are cowardly pathetic whiny vandals/greifers.

now that you think of it when you jettison a can the can is coming from your ship it would make sense if it was only the size of your ship's cargo if ccp changes jet cans to smaller then giant secure cans that would probably get most people to use them. though its pathetic to see people whine about ore thef when its their own damn fault that they are not useing giant secure containers. After all ccp put them in game for a reason :P

Already popped this into an earlier post.. but what the hell.......
I am a Mining Ops inpsector in the region of Vilinnon and Algaseinan.
I have to say there are more and more illegal mining ops every day, nobody has the right documentation when I call to inspect them and get very upset when I am then forced to confiscate thier ore
One guy even got his friends to target me outside a station to try and intimidate me, unfortunatly one of them got a bit trigger happy and his battle cruiser was blown up by concord for his aggressive behaviour.
All I can say is:
1) Have the correct documentation ready when I call, this can be purchased from me for the measly sum of 2.5 mil per day or 15 mil per week. I will leave you in peace.
2) mine into secure containers
3) Use haulers while you mine
4) Dont mine in secure space
Well must dash.... more clients waiting.
Have a nice day one and all

Perhaps you should read this topic again and reconsider. :P
Of course, the irony of this entire fiasco is that no lazy, worthless ore thief will EVER steal ore in space where people can retaliate. Which inevitalby raises the question: Who's more pathetic? The guy whining about the ore loss or the guy that hasn't the ******* to do it in unsecured space?

Ore thieving is even worse than mining, then, according to that--ore thieving has ZERO risk, while mining has the risk of ore thieves (as using secure cans with a larger mining ship is impossible).
Meaning its the ultimate secure profession. You're making tons of money for no risk at all by carebearing in Empire. Go suck a roid. -- The best description of alliances, ever:
