Edited by: Taurean Eltanin on 15/04/2011 11:14:08 I'm finishing up my pvp training in T1 frigates and I want to start flying a T2 frigate soon. In particular, my choices are the Crusader, Malediction and the Vengeance.
Which is these ships is likely to be better for solo pvp - piracy in particular?
Why?

Haven't used rockets yet after the change so not sure on those ones, but Crusader is definitely good for the use.

Vengeance is an amazing ship, go with that. _________________________________

Crusader/Slicer or a Vengeance are solid picks. Really it depends on your preference, are you looking for speed or a massive tank?

If you're in low sec, an AB/web/scram Vengeance is great fun. The Crusader is now outshined by it's kickass cousin, the Slicer. Buy one, fit it like you would a dogfighting Crusader: all nano/tracking lows/rigs, long point, Scorch. Malediction can do some cool things if you think outside the box and it is dirt cheap, but it honestly shines best as a fleet tackler rather than a solo pwn boat. - Dex -

I always had a bit of trouble using the Slicer; it's pretty fast, but since it operates so close to the edge of point range it's very easy for the target to get away. It doesn't have a lot of problem against the slower frigates but against Dramiels, it dies pretty readily unless the Dramiel pilot doesn't know what he's doing.
Then again that probably reflects the kind of frigates I run into... if more people flew around in Harpies, Vengeances, Ishkurs, and similarly slow-ish frigates I'd fly the Slicer a lot more.
Against faster frigates like other interceptors and Dramiels I prefer the close-range dogfighting Crusader since it's very fast and unlike the Slicer isn't utterly and completely useless at close range.
But both are definitely good ships. ________________

Don't forget faction frigates, while the Dramiel is in a league of it's own, all of them tend to fall under "the best of both worlds".
Between tank, spank, mobility and utility. Don't forget that, if you dualprop for example, your sig to speed relative is an important factor to consider when you approximate your effective survival chance.
As a total pakage, weighing in all advantages and weaknesses and factoring in a larger scope of opponents, the faction frigs are very competetive.

1) Piracy - what do you mean under it? I mean, you may kill stuff on all these ships, but won't earn money on any of them.
2) Malediction is a tackling inty, not designed for solo pvp. You may solo pvp on it, if you have lots of skill, SP and isk (you don't at the moment ). Now we have sader and venga left. Unfortunately, these two ships are obsolete. AF never were anything good, Sader was great... until faction frigate revamp.
My choice (between variants given) is Crusader.

Vengeance with autocannons, a small cap booster, ab, scram, and dual reps is amazing. tank any frigate BUT a daredevil [/url] |

I dont know how accurate your killboard may or may not be but either way I wouldnt suggest rushing into T2 frigs. There is much to learn with cheaper/more easily replaceable ships (ie punisher) and just upgrading into T2 isnt going to turn many losses into wins.
Also you would get more specific advice if you elaborated a bit more on where you plan to fly these frigs and what you intend to "pirate"
My thoughts on these ships for solo in general though:
crusader - solid ship.. used to be more effective before you saw pirate/faction frigs everywhere.. 2 mids annoys me
malediction - ive been liking this since the rocket fix.. decent range control/gtfo ability.. decent damage/tank for class.. often still underestimated
vengeance - kick ass tank for a frig but slow.. people know it has a good tank so they are less likely to engage solo
Of these ships i only currently fly the mal, but with proper application any of them could be effective solo.

Edited by: Taurean Eltanin on 17/04/2011 15:22:34 Well, lots of good advice here, but clearly I need to be more specific about what I am looking for.
When I say piracy, I typically mean destroying other ships for their fittings or breaking their tank so I can ransom them. I suspect that means that I will be targeting larger hulls than myself fairly often (or at least, as the opportunity arises).
As a result, I'm not necessarily looking for the best dogfighter. Any ship that I'm flying needs to be able to either tank or destroy a flight of drones, as well as pack the dps to break the tank on a larger vessel. I know the Crusader has an excellent reputation as a brawler, but I don't know how it handles against larger hulls.
I have looked at the Navy Slicer, but it's twice as expensive as any of the T2 frigates. As a younger character I expect that I will lose a fair number of ships, and I can lose twice as many T2 ships as I can Slicers for the same cost. That said, is the Slicer worth it anyway? It's certainly a ship I'm open to.
The Vengeance has an advantage over it's counterparts, as I currently use one for running low sec radar sites. Pouring skill points into the Vengeance would help increase my ISK generating efficiency; that may be an important point, as very few people seem to get rich through piracy.
Sadly, it's sounding like the Malediction is out for solo work, and that's not totally unexpected. On paper it looks like a cross between the Vengeance and Crusader when it comes to speed and tank, but I rarely hear good things about the ship - Small Steamed Bun's comment excepted.
Hopefully, the above puts my request in a little context.

crusader is probobly beter at fighing other frigs because of tracking bonus and slicer got range bonus so it can stay out of webb/neut/scram range of slower ships, I sugest trying both.
vengence and malediction with rockets, ab, scram, webb can be really anoying for close range frigs with blasters/ac's since they cant get into range. both of them have the best tank in the class (resist + cap) but dps is meh for killing anything with a tank.

Edited by: Vixisti on 17/04/2011 18:20:38 Slicer gets my vote, tank it, and fit tracking rigs. If you're good you can get most short range frigates into trouble before they manage to get you scrammed and by that time you just switch crystals and finish them off.
When it comes to taking on bigger ships, just keep your range and kill the drones(very easy) You will have trouble with tracking enhanced autocannon ships but you can always GTFO if it's going pear shaped.
