Hey,
The build which is now running on Singularity contains the new UI framework which we shall be releasing soon. There will be a dev blog containing all the details (which shall also be arriving soon), but for now the main points are:
Everything should look the same (pretty much) except for checkboxes and radio buttons, which look different. If you find something which is broken, please file a bug report about it.
Performance is something we hope we are improving with this change. If you could reply in this thread with your computer specs, performance on TQ, and performance on this build, that would be awesome. From internal testing we are seeing some nice performance increases, but you guys run some crazy setups.
Thanks!

It's awesome. Performance spiked like 200% lmao as of loading menu's etc. If you could specify what kind of data you're looking for (FPS?) then I could provide some data :)
PS. My SiSi build after running first time this build didn't want to run again. Going to see if this happens again.

No exact numbers but everything just *feels* so much faster and smoother.
My only complaint so far:
Thin lines around curved UI objects seem to be missing parts. For example, if you open the Solar System map in both the Sisi and TQ build, you will notice that parts of the Solar System rings are cut off, at least at my resolution. It seems like an aliasing issue. Something similar happens with the Capacitor UI when undocked, the outer ring of it seems more crisp but almost *too* crisp considering the rest of the UI doesn't look like that.
Specs
Windows 7 x64 Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.66 Ghz nVidia 8800 GTS 640mb Resolution: 1680x1050

TQ: http://killersservers.co.uk/images/tqui.jpg 695,672K memory usage Singularity: http://killersservers.co.uk/images/singui.jpg 487,968K memory usage
On the new FPS monitor please show the actual number as well.
Other than those few problems the FPS is about the same, menus seem to load faster.

I dunno, I find it hard to believe how the fps drops more when I right click in space than when when loading a page with the in-game browser.
The looks etc I think's a step in the right direction! Can't say much for performance, still is fairly poor I think :)

p sure you are right, and that's the part I don't understand why they don't fixed years ago. I'm sure most of the client lag is due to this fact.

Python isn't threaded.
Also the shield /armor / structure bars are not as crisp as before and they looked fuzzy for a few seconds after undocking.. I though my graphics card was artifacting for a second.

After docking, changing ship and undocking i got this: http://img545.imageshack.us/i/capyq.jpg/
Also, the session change icon on the top left corner isn't animated, keeps saying 30 seconds left and don't disappears.
It's also really hard to recognize wich overview tab is currently selected.

Question nimbus i'm installing SISI now... the new UI its from what i've read giving better performance client side which is awesome, will we be seeing any new things before it goes like? like you know the ship crosshairs/selection overview stuff, they mentioned at fanfest that the interface team was working on making the in-space interface look more like in the eve videos with the selected ship details etc which looks sexy in eve videos but ****ty in eve the game...
just wondering, though now that i think about it you guys probably won't say either way :( especially if its coming before 2014 or not lol

Python isn't threaded.
The IGB runs in its own process and only passes the result of the rendering work to the EVE client (shows as "ccpBrowser.exe" in the Windows TaskManager).

That's right, but you'd think with moving to CarbonUI they'd implement threading, it has to be possible since they managed to handle it for the web interface window, we're talking client side UI here

so why don't they move things like the asset window etc out to a seperate process, would make things much nicer to deal with, yes i understand probably cant do that for right click :) but perhaps we need a auxWindow.exe :) that renders auxiliary windows outside of eve, assets, show info, etc

Yeah that was explained when they changed the browser. By the comment python isn't threaded I meant thats why it slows things down in game. Since the IGB is doing it's stuff on another thread doesn't make everything else in the client pause like it does in game.

Is it just me or I can't see the scanner probes on the solar system map anymore? I can still scan, but I can see or move them, well all I see is a red square around the sun representing the probes I guess...

p sure they run c / c++ with python baked into it for ui etc.
Anyway, your answer should read

CCP can't figure out how to make the eve client multi-threaded.
Now that's understandable, so my hopes is that this Carbonisation helps them achieve that!

Is the central UI/HUD really supposed to slide left and right when the side-menu slides in and out...?
Also - as above, shield/armour/structure bars look worse than before - rough.

Edited by: Rixiu on 15/04/2011 17:54:41 Looks good so far. Performance is as good, if not better, than tq.
Looks: Found a broken thing though, when hovering chat channel tabs the "hovered" channel doesn't highlight. Also the buttons (eg. "search" on the market) looks a but too "heavy" and doesn't really fit in with the rest of the ui which is more slick and clean. Slightly decreasing the shadows around the button would perhaps make them fit in better.
Another thing that buggers me is this:
http://piclair.com/data/hvjhw.jpg
Mouse Pointer (1.) is clearly outside the right click meny, yet it is still highlighted (2.) and this is annoying. I've noticed that it's the same on tq though so I guess it doesn't belong here but now I've written all of this so fk it :)
Will play around some more.
Edit: After getting my ass out of the station http://piclair.com/data/2vulk.jpg. Still the same after dragging around, trying to align top etc.

Same two issues. Also a white spot where "cargo" and "scanner" and other buttons used to be. image
Ubuntu 10.10 wine 1.2.2 Intel Core2 Quad 6600 2.4 GHz 4gb ddr2 GeForce GTX 275
Pretty high fps (~100 in space) with max settings except AA. About 800mb memory usage.
In CC fps are down to ~20 and mem usage is up to 1.3gb ____________________________________ Open your eyes. And Awaken. |

Edited by: Daneel Trevize on 15/04/2011 23:23:01 So the client won't reliably launch either from the tool or a custom shortcut, instead I get ExeFile.exe 150mb processes left around. But if I am looking at my desktop (Win+D first), then I'll get the semi-recent behaviour of much flickering before a login screen appears. Seems to be some issue getting focus/graphics device/something. Using XP.
Once ingame, damage HUD isn't updating, so the smartbombing supercap in the cruiser FFA looks to be doing nothing to me, and then the mach chasing me down is also giving non-miss damage reports yet shields don't budge, only a mouse over of the hud reveals it's time to eject and build a new ship.
Edit: exefile.exe not evefile.exe |

Looks good overall. Seeing several issues, however:
The shield/armor/hull and capacitor arcs are now quite fuzzy and difficult to look at.
The channel MOTD now takes several minutes to display.
The chat window can get 'stuck' on joining a channel, so that the user cannot swap between channels or unstack the chat windows.
It can take approximately one to three seconds for the client to show that a module is on and cycling. The graphical representation of the module cycle is accurate, however -- the cycle just appears to begin approximately a quarter of the way through.
System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Intel Core i3 M370 @ 2.4GHz ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 @ 1GB 4GB DDR3 RAM Catalyst AI Off

TQ Performance RAM Usage: 727,924KB FPS (In Space): 58 FPS (Docked): 60 FPS (Character Re-Customization): 16/23 (physical simulation on/off)*
SISI Performance (Approximate numbers) RAM Usage: 618,692KB FPS (In Space): 100 FPS (Docked): ~80 FPS (Character Re-Customization): 28/36 (physical simulation on/off)*
*The character editor feels sluggish when physical simulation of cloth/hair is enabled, even if the FPS remains playable. Not particularly problematic given the hardware used to run it. I wish it performed this well when editing character appearance on TQ last week.
