hi y'all, i got a small problem hoping ye can help me out
in 3-4 days my account time expires because ive had to cancel the card its on for other reasons, i dont have another card accepted by the online ordering and ive no idea about other payment methods like buying time cards etc, what i really want to know is this, if i set a long skill training and then wait 2-3 weeks for the new card to arrive will the skill have trained? or will it not? if not is there any other way than buying alternative methods of payment?
p.s. this may not be the right forum for it, i thought about general discussions but it is skill related, really i just want to know if the skill keeps training when deactivated, the other stuff is just accessory :P if its not then feel free to move it moderater people :) |

If you kill an account and have a long train going, you keep on training. You just cannot change what you are currently training. --- The Tarsis Shriners |

No, that used too be the case but isn't anymore. If you run out of time/money etc, your skills stop training. ___________________________ Chicks dig Brutor's |

Not true, unless they've changed it in the past week. I had to wait for a few days until my new card arrived before I could upgrade the 14 day trial into a full account, so I set Amarr Frigate 5 going. It was still going strong 6 days later when I signed up.

Account de-activated on the 2nd of feb with 13 days left training a skill. Reactivated on the 18th and the skill was finished.
It still trains... Unless CCP gives freebees... Which I HIGHLY doubt. --------------------------------------------- "Rang Rang" Something no one wants in eve. Pray that it never comes. They are locusts... You've been warned... ------------------------------------ |

To me it seems, that your skills do not really train while your offline/inactive. Rather, when ever you log on, the game checks if the skill you set to training has finished.
As consequences: 1) No matter the reason you didn't log on for the time, you get the due skillpoints when you log on 2) When you get 'skill finished' eve-mail on logon, it has the date stamp of the logon time 3) If you have set alt to train a skill offline and it finished, you still can't set main to train because the game complains your alt is still training. Thus you have to log on the alt just to see the skill really finished.

why would u honestly think that u should be able to train skills, while not actually paying for the game?.

And because you continuing to train a skill is something which might just pull you back into the game at some point. I believe what someone else said earlier is correct. The skill training is based purely on time since a skill was started. In other words it's stateless in reality. If they were to cancel a skill training for a period they would have to store where it got to up to that point and resume from there if and when the player returned. I doubt its worth the development, after all, you gain no benefit from training until you log back in :)
