Hi. Love EVE. Have been playing for a while now. There is one issue that has been bugging me since the first time I initiated a warp jump in EVE... linear warp trajectories.
What it means is that you: 1) warp through stations 2) warp through planets and other celestial objects 3) aligning for warp when you are very close to large collidable objects is total crap (you're bumping forever until you manually maneuver the ship out of the navigation trap).
I find most (turret sounds in space, eh? :) of the EVE Online back-story and world setup pretty nice and believable, but when my ship warps straight through a planet or station, the illusion of space faring life fails miserably :)
Warp trajectories should be plotted in an arc. Away from the closest collidable object and around celestial obstacles. You could even throw in a nice "mapping trajectory" graphic in HUD just for eye candy. "Align to" function perfectly complements this idea as well.
Hope to see this realized some time in the future. And thanks for the great game :)

When you go into warp, you are going into a miniature artificial "wormhole" that is removed from "normal" space... this means that once in warp you are not, and cannot, interact with objects that you "see" while in warp. You simply "pass through them."
There. Immersion restored. _______________________

Cowboy Bebop FTW.
Wait, if you can't interact with them, how can you see them?

The same way you hear stuff in space: your pod keeps track of where you are and what's happening around you, and synthesizes the sights and sound of your current location. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Ah... we only see this one every OTHER week... For what it's worth there's a perfectly legit in-game reason. Isn't that good enough?
As for bumping on the undock. Didn't they relocate an entire stargate in the Amarr system so that wouldn't be such a big deal.
Fairly certain it was discussed in the past, and the notion was it'd add too much server lag / client side delays to be worth the hassle. Duno, you could probably find one of the other threads about this that'll answer it better. Folks are already bitter about how long it takes to get from point A to point B in space. Imagine adding a few seconds for the game to reticulate splines and pick a legit trajectory.

Edited by: Chaos Incarnate on 17/04/2011 22:59:26 problem is that you replace the fairly intuitive aligning system you'd have now with a fairly random/difficult to predict align point (and ease of gameplay > immersive graphics, imho)
the better solution would be some sort of graphical effect (which can be passed off as some sort of relativistic effect) that stretches the planet/station/etc to one side and past you in warp rather than you flying directly through it. It'd still look a little funny to have a planet jump out of your way, but it'd keep the gameplay aspects the same _____________________ Look down. Back up. Where are you? How about, when you warp a warp buble encompases your ship creating a field of no mass so your ship can hit light speed.
Also the bubble places your mass out of phase with the universe making you a ghost and can pass through objects

This issue has been discussed many times. Again I think the most reasonable resolution to appease those that hate seeing themselves pass through stuff is to make the warp bubble around the ship denser. This way you cannot see through the warp field around you but just see the zippy colors or whatever. With doing this...creating a cool entering warp and exiting warp effect would be cool. That's a bad idea, since it obstructs the nice view of space we have now. This issue seems to bother some, but not me and I don't want my beautiful view of space ruined by them. I'd much rather have CCP leave everything the way it is, than try to obstruct the view you have while warping in any way. Better solution might be to apply some kind effect only when passing through a large stationary object. Some kind of distortion effect that can be seen on the bubble, that can be also disabled in the options. It would be off as a default.
Afterall if the current view during warp is just images generated by the pod, the pod can also generate another false image to appease the capsuleers whose minds have difficulty handling the concept of warping and passing through matter.

Some of you have posted some really interesting replies. But I'm still not seeing how you find the current situation satisfactory :)
