Everytime I visit Dodixie I get the warning message "You are an enemy of the Gallente Federation, you have but a few seconds to flee...".
I have a standing of 3.25 with the Gallente Federation and 8.57 with the federation Navy.
Any ideas why I get this message?

ah - hadn't thought of that - 0.83 - Is that bad? Not sure why, I only fly Gallente missions...

-0.83 shouldn't be causing you problems. You would need to be at -2.5 to have problems in Dodixie.
Are you smuggling something? Are you sure that is the exact message you get?
Are you sure the message was not meant for someone else (you do see other peoples messages along the lines of "John Smith you are the...")?

Checked you ingame. Your sec status is positive, your standing towards Gallente is positive (Amarr really doesn't like you though :P). So assuming this is the character you're talking about then all should be fine and Foksieloy's logic makes sense.
You either have contraband onboard or you're reading other people's messages.

I've sometimes seen messages like this that can't possibly apply to me. My question is, why the hell are we able to see messages like these that don't apply to us? Seems useless, distracting and misleading...or am I doing it wrong?

The message is there because you can react to it. For example, a -10.0 pirate enters highsec. You can warp disrupt him legally and shoot him. The police will help. You get a killmail.

Does it happen every time you enter Dodixie? Does it say your name in the message?

This one has caught me off guard a couple of times before i fixed my standings 
The message isent to you,but to someone else who just happend to jump trough/land at the gate at the same time as you.
The message really disapears to fast for you to get a good look at it,but it will say a characters name.If you cant see your name,its someone else and you don't have to worry.

The message looks a lot like this to a new player:
You are a terrible person. You have done something wrong. You will pay for it with blood. You should not be doing what you have been doing. *disappears before you can read the rest.*
Of course to us not-as-newb players, we instantly look to the very end of the message to see who the message is really talking about.
Dodixie is a large trade hub, and I could see someone having issues with security standings or Gallente standings warping close to the same time as you for a few times in a row. Probability's a b*&ch, eh?

Thank you so much for all your replies. I've checked again, I have managed to get in and out of Dodixie without the message.
I'm just being a paranoid noob I guess. lesson learned - read carefully!!
