There are several thousand log files from eve in my Documents folder, in Win 7. How do I disable logging, or at least change the location for them?
thx

Yep, I've had this climb up to as many as 32,000. It wasn't the space but the amount. They are even hard to delete with Vista. I just copied the name and deleted the folder. I do that once every month or so. |

A solution is to disallow access to the log folder. EVE Online will not be able to write logs in the first place.
- Open the Security Properties tab for My Documents\EVE\logs
- Click Advanced
- Uncheck ôInherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here.ö
- Click Remove in the resulting dialog box
- Click OK, Yes and then OK

Edited by: Colonel Anguss on 22/04/2011 17:52:52 I'm noticing other log files that are still getting generated, apparently each time I warp, jump or dock. My main problem with this, is Eve is dumping these directly in the Documents folder -- not in a subfolder (same with the chatlogs, which I've since turned off)

thats nothing, if you use FAT32 EVE will happily ignore filesystem limitations* and keep saving till it cant, at that point you will lose all the logs
* 21K files per folder at 4KB clusters

Why would you do that? Just turn off chat logging in the client. =============================== Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is simply calisthenics with words. Dorothy Parker |

let it sit and run fro a few hours the first time thru, then run it once a week or so...
I've found there are often times when I wanna go back and find something someone said or a link or something. With this tool now all I need to know is what the channel was, and in which month they said it.

Yeah I agree, that is a pretty rediculous solution.

The client will still create game logs Originally by: Rens Cheque Yeah I agree, that is a pretty rediculous solution.
What's ridiculous is using another program or schedule to remove logs which you could prevent being created.

Its really annoying that the logfiles are not in the eve folder but in a windows specific one. I would love to log my chat, but my windows partition is on my SSD and i really dont want EVE to constantly write on it.

If I remember correctly the log files are put into the eve folder of my documents. Move the my documents folder to another hard drive and problem should be solved?. Right click my documents, select a new location, hit apply, allow windows to move your current files to the new location and receive bacon.

Relocating the user folder in windows7 is not a trivial task and it can easily destroy the whole installation. And i dont mean it like when people say "dont use regedit, it can destroy your system if you are not careful", attempting to do this is REALLY on the edge because the user folder is very integrated in the whle win7 design and there is a lot of stuff linking to it and if you overlook just one, the whole system doesnt work anymore.

Have you tried it with the Link shell extension tool(hardlinks) from here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients
I suspect moving the whole Dock folder of the current user should be pretty impossible. Maybe it¦ll work by creating a new admin account, then log on to it and move the original user off the SSD so you can create the hardlink to the new location.
If you don¦t understand a word I wrote, make yourself familiar with the Hardlink functionality the Link shell provides. It¦s pretty neat and should solve the SSD trashing even normal OS usage causes. ______________ Mal-¦Appears we got here just in a nick of time. In Win7 Right click on Documents in explorer. Properties, set its location.
I fail how this is going to mess with my system when this is one of the nicest features of the OS. Only things with hardcoded locations will fail, and as it is Win7 seems to catch all of that and put it where it's meant to go. It even moved everything from where it was and placed it in the new location I set. Any application that doesn't use %USER% is bound to fall over anyway.
You can set the entire libraries locations.
If you still have a problem, look up Junctioning. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

while we're on this topic, does anyone know of anything else that can be disabled that prevents a bunch of EVE crap to accumulate anywhere on your computer?

If any of you guys are on Linux, just remember that you can replace the folder with a symlink to where you really want the logs stored.
Quick, easy, and anybody who uses the OS should be familiar with how to do it. Even works across partitions.

It aint crap & all the logs are in the same place -default Documents. Just clean house every now & then & if you dont want chat logs disable it in the client as others have said. I recommend keeping chat logs tho & if you've had an uneventful month delete them, takes 2 seconds to do & they dont take much HDD space anyway so I don't see why everyone freaks out about them. If you've had drama - zip them & label properly, you never know when they might come in handy!

must have waited 15 minutes and the files still weren't cataloged and visible. Went in with Alltap Salamander. 4 gigs, maybe hundreds of thousands of files. can't tell yet for sure. Salamander seems to be able to handle it but Windows may not be up to it. Think I'll move em instead of deletes. Lots of old good convos :) Lot of trash too.
