When will we see the Android/iOS client?
Surprised this hasn't already been asked!
(For those that missed it, click for Eve on smartphone)

That phone is an android? And it runs on the Android Motorola tablet too. It will more the likely run on the ASUS one as well.

I... Want... This!
Functionality may be difficult. But all I really want is to update/modify skill queue, participate in market transactions, send/receive eve mail, operate And modify PI nodes, and spin ships.
Oh, and I want this on the iPhone.

I would be more than happy to have an EVE Client that allow me of playing IN STATION. That would be market, trade, cleaning hangars, research, chatting etc etc.
Do not really care if I would not be allowed to undock.

Problem being of course that "in station" will soon simply mean "incarna", and therefore far beyond the capabilities of any smartphone!

at the end of a youtube link put #t=xxmyys where xx and yy are the minutes and seconds respectively. I assume there is a zzh for hours to if your video gets that big or it might be that the minutes just progresses over 60 and they make you do math.

The phone was showing the models of a single ship spinning in the ship viewer while CCP was sitting mouth open on their knees for Nvidia.
An actual client for mobile OS? File it away next to Planetary Flight and Comet Mining. ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

Not going to happen as the eve client uses directX and thats not available on iOS and Android. Now thats the price when you relay on Microsoft stuff only and think thats somehow not a business critical thing.
CCP will not be the only ones with that problem if the platform changes. -- please consider to visit our w-space system, cake will be served immediately. |

Motorola handsets (including the one in the video) run Android so it's safe to assume it's not running under DX. Almost certainly OpenGL.

Yeah, but they only showed a rotating model and something that looked like a fitting window, that wasn't the eve client. -- please consider to visit our w-space system, cake will be served immediately. |

Can you honestly say you would want to play EVE on a display that small? (Before you answer, take a moment to actually think about what it would be like to play on).
And in all fairness, why would you want to? I'm sure this is where someone will chirp in and say "hur dur dur, it's so I can play while I'm not at home!". Seriously? For the love of god and all that is holy, does it really hurt to pull your head out of the binary universe for one day and socialize? *mumbles*

Are you saying CCP built an entirely new 3D engine, based on OpenGL, then ported over the polygon models and textures for a demonstration spinning?

You're right actually, though I presume no one will expect the "full experience" on their mobile (though maybe on their tablet). Now you mention it I can't think of any aspect of Eve that one would or could play on a smartphone screen that would require the 3D engine. Market and skills has been possible for years (in fact it was demonstrated about 5 years ago but never followed up) and station spinning will soon be replaced with incarna, which mentioned above, will be beyond smartphone capabilities.
However I can't deny the prospect of sitting on the train next to a smug iPhone owner and embarrassing his "angry birds" by booting up eve is appealing.

So, if you're looking for the ability to run Eve on a tablet or smartphone, android or iphone, I don't see why you won't use remote desktops.
They are laggy, but it seems like most of you would be content with limited, non-millisecond critical stuff like station stuff, market stuff etc.
It sounds like a remote desktop solution is exactly what you folk are after.

No, i just assume they loaded the model in whatever 3d engine they used and started spinning. Some even loaded them in the crysis engine so i assume it is not really rocket science: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPeb547pis0 -- please consider to visit our w-space system, cake will be served immediately. |

I have been playing Eve on my iPhone for almost 2 years now.
http://www.iteleportmobile.com/
Works really well over WIFI, but laggy under 3G. Very simple to log in, check market orders, do some basic hauling or mining, change skills, chat with corpies. I would never attempt to do combat, even if it was only PvE, the iPhone screen is just too small. On an iPad combat would probably be very playable.
There are VNC clients for the Android platform as well, which I'll be switching to at the end of my AT&T contract (and yes, AT&T is as bad as everyone says they are, this coming from someone that work for them).
