I have, for some time, been interested in putting together a relatively comprehensive list of historical bonds and IPOs. Since I'm not up to much ingame at the moment, now seems like a good time to start arranging the data gathering. What I am looking for are some people who want to play amateur historian and earn some decent money. You do not need to have any sort of established name or to ever have posted on MD. All you need is the rather meagre ability to go through large numbers of old threads and extract data from them.
I am therefore inviting tenders to do this work. What I need to know is how much you will charge to collect full data sets for 20 offerings plus your supplemental charge for flagging those offerings that are harder to work out. For each offering you will need to gather a thread link, an offering amount, whether there was an audit or not (plus name of auditorand link to audit), what the interest rate was, how long the offering ran for, and whether the offering closed successfully. The majority of offerings will yield all this information from one or two threads and it will only take 10-20 minutes to gather the data. However, there will also be more problematic offerings, such as most IPOs, that may have variable interest rates, numerous expansions and contractions, or any other feature that makes the basic data set hard to acquire. At this stage I just want these tricky offerings identified (which should take 10-20 mins again) so that we can come back to them later and deal with them more carefully. Very roughly, I would expect these tricky offerings to account for one in three (I am only interested in those offerings that actually launched, btw).
So, assuming one in three will be difficult offerings and also assuming that each offering, easy or hard will take 20 mins, you should base your tender on an assumed 10 hours of work to gather the data for 20 offers. You will be paid for each set of 20 once the data has been received and reviewed. Your contract will automatically be extended, should you wish, after each batch. I will assign the time priod that you will be working on. So, decide what your hourly rate is, multiply by ten and then let me know the figure if you are interested. The minimum bid is 400mil per set (i.e. equivalent to good lvl 4 mission running) and there is no maximum. However, if I feel that the lowest bids are too high to sustain this project in the long run I reserve the right not to issue any contracts.

Since I'm on restricted peak-time access due to exceeding bandwidth which I'm blaming CCP for. Seriously? 700+Mb patch for a few tweaks? Come on! I'd like to take you up on this offer. I'm happy to go with the base fee since I can't log into game anyway and any Isk is better than none.
Did you have any ideas on allocating any of this or would the successful tenders be competing on a first come first served basis with the results that they submit?

You might want to work out some kind of a shared workspace in order to avoid overlapping work effort.
Moto's work on google doc is a good starting point.

Great! You can start gathering whenever you are ready. I'm going to start in the middle and work outwards, so to speak, so if you can start your searching from Jan. 1 2007 I'll then deploy any further researchers on your flanks. There won't be any competition with the results as each researcher will be assigned a different time period. For the moment, just record the data in a word document.
@Brock - Moto has offered me access to the public document he started work on so I will probably end up entering the results there, although I may need to start from scratch with a new one depending on how easily I can change the fields. In any case, the objective is to create something publicly accessible and not just for private use.
Finally, if anyone can think of a better name than MD Institute of Historical Studies, preferably with an amusing acronym, I'll award a prize of 100mil if I take it up.

Being a Red Dwarf fan I'd vote for something along the lines of the Central Library Institute's Traded Offer Records + Insolvency Study. If that's a bit long you could always go with say the Central Librarys Investment Table and the offshoot research wing which is the Loans, Annuities, Bonds, Indentures Analysis.

I would most definitely be interested in doing this. I'll be swamped over the next couple of days (doing actual history research, appropriately enough), but assuming there is still money to be made and work to be done, count me in. |

Welcome on board! You'll have Jan. 2006 as your start point. Once you've done your first one can you evemail it to me just so we can check that we are singing from the same sheet?
@Lauren - Those are great but I'd like to avoid contributing to the kind of environment that makes women turn their noses up at games like eve. They did make me laugh though, so I guess I just prefer to pretend gamers don't find things like that funny

Needs a correction. There is a certain venture listed in there is listed as a success that should probably be listed as a scam.
Looking forward to seeing the results of all of this. Sorry, too lazy to help though.
