Has anybody writting one? I'm looking to find miners/hunters in belts more quickly. If there isn't one, can somone with experiance give a rundown of what they do? ____________________________ Waiting to cut out the deadwood. Waiting to clean up the city. Waiting to follow the worms. |

The scanner doesn't work properly atm, so I'd say this isn't a good time to learn it.

while it's true that the scanner seems to be borked atm, here's a quick explaniation:
1. look which planets have belts 2. warp to a planet which has 3. do a 360¦ range scan which covers all belts range-wise. 4. if you see anything worthwile, point your camera view to each belt (use your ship as a "crosshair"), and do a 5¦ scan. 5. if the ship is there, hit warp and warm the scrambler up
hope this helps a bit...

So I'm not the only person who's been having trouble with their scanner? This has been ****ing me off bigtime for the past day or so. ----------------------------

get 2 m8's to warp back and forth between two points and keep scanning at a low angle and eventually you have to get a range on them...so warp to the nearest fixed spot (moon, planet whatever) and just mwd far enough to see them...bm the spot and hey presto...brown bread

Edited by: Shai Faetal on 09/02/2005 11:28:11 Edited by: Shai Faetal on 09/02/2005 11:27:53 i think he meant what schroni is refering to, i do the same thing just it goes like this.
come into a system warp to usually top planet, do a 360 scan, see what belts i get on it and if any targets. if i get targets i narrow the scan to 90 degrees and narrow it down to a belt by turning the camera around.
basicly, if u get 1 belt on scanner and ships on it it means they are there.

On arrival in system, check which planets have belts. Warp to each planet in turn and set scanner for 15,000,000 and 5 degrees. Move camera round each "triangle" and scan at each. Quickest way IMO.
btw Zanthiuse, a corpmate and I saw you in crielere a couple of weeks ago in a Thorax and we were scanning you as you warped aound the belts :) We warped to a couple but you were gone by the time we got there. I think you were looking for us but I guessed you warped out of the belts as soon as you saw we weren't there.

What exactly is borked on the scanner at the moment?

The max range seemed to be limited to about 2 mil km, but it's fixed now it seems.

Edited by: dalman on 09/02/2005 18:56:18 [disclaimer] Since I haven't played after Exodus was launched, I really don't know how the scanner was changed.
But back in the days, I think ex-CA and Xetic can say I was pretty fast to find someone in a belt, and sometimes ppl hiding on safespots. And I've never used 'scan by angle'(except when finding safespots).
I've always just used 'scan by range' (360 degree) and 'sort by range'. Start scanning at max range. Then lower the range and you'll very fast see at which planet the target is. Go there and do the same, and you find out which belt fast.

And the only basic thing left for you to know is that 1 au stands for "austronomical unit" and 1au equals 149 mil km.
Which is, if you wounder, the distance from some planet "earth" to some small yellow star called "sun".
Then you have your target on scanner you usually try to minimie range setting to get to the point when it apperas and disappers from the list with minimal adjustment of the range. Once you got that percise range in km, you can convert it to AUs and look what belt is that far away from you.
With some pratice and calculator, together with decent usage of "angle" setting of the scanner you can find the belt with a miner pretty fast.
Enjoy
