So what kind of, and quantity of Ammo are you young budding AC users carrying.
Im usually packing in my Vagas/Hurri/Ruptures etc...
2000 Barrage - Long Range 1000 RF EMP - Shield Tankers 1000 RF Phased - Not sure why I carry these, any ideas? (I was told too). 1000 RF Fusion - Armor Tankers

RF Phased Plasma Ammo is good against T2 Amarr ships.

Also if you shield tank and plug the em hole which is quite common, thermal is the lowest.
I just load on thermal for default and switch up when i need to.

Good day:
The rock, paper, scissors article is excellent. I would add RF Titanium Sabot to the mix as well.
For quantities, it depends on whether I'm flying a brawling ship (therefore less barrage) or a kiting ship (therefore more barrage), along with how much ammo is needed to fill all turrets. I.e. I don't want to take more than x rounds based on my goals for a roam; and how much I have of y ammo will be based on previous experiences. For example, I've not run into too many cases in FW where EMP and Fusion are the absolutely best choice, so I'll have less rounds of them than the other types.
Thank you.

I'm quite a Sabot fan as well. My usual carry is Phased Plasma, Titanium Sabot and Barrage.

Not that different to me really. I normally have the following for medium ACs :
1000 RF PP (+ all guns loaded with it) 500 RF EMP 500 RF Fusion 500 Barrage 500 Hail (I have tons of the stuff and it works well enough on webbed armour tanks)
I've only ever run out of ammo once and had to use some crap from "loot".
Those are just rough figures - I try to go for 3 full reloads of RF PP and 1.5 full reloads of the rest.

I like to bring some normal ammo as well, type determined by the rats in the systems i roam.
Then when i get GCC I tend to go pop a rat or two in belts. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Barrage and faction fusion, pp, emp. Hail for armor cane and maybe armor rupture when fighting big armor tanked ships. For kiting ship i generally have barrage loaded, for brawling ship rf pp - good damage to both shields and armor.
I use tracking ammo only on arty fits.

Edited by: Othran on 27/04/2011 16:16:29 I use barrage simply for the damage mix it gives rather than range. Out of the medium ammo you'd use for ACs (I wouldn't use titanium sabot, raw DPS is too low) it gives the best kinetic component while maintaining reasonable DPS.
In the days before TE2s I used barrage a lot more for range, now that's not so necessary.
Regarding RF titanium sabot - it does 18.4 damage (barrage does 22), doesn't have a range bonus and shouldn't be anywhere near a PvP medium AC setup
Crunching the numbers we see that it does 84% of the damage that Barrage does and only 67% of the damage any of the high damage types (RF PP, RF EMP) do.
You don't need the tracking bonus with medium ACs + TE2s. The damage profile of barrage has enough kinetic damage to make it a better pure DPS choice even if you're shooting at a kinetic hole (hello Vagas!) and the range bonus allows more DPS to be put on target sooner.
The vast majority of the ships you require kinetic damage for are Minmatar T2 so join the dots....
Titanium Sabot in medium ACs is fail I'm afraid. If you need the tracking bonus then your gunnery skills are appalling or you haven't discovered TE2s. Sorry if that offends but it IS an appalling choice of ammo for medium ACs. Stop using it.

Greetings Othran:
In your experience, and opinion T.S. might be fail, but with elite gunnery control cert, there are cases where it makes enough of a difference for the ships I'm attacking that it is night and day in favor of T.S. I.e. same distance (20 km), bad hits to no hits... switch to T.S., and all of a sudden, the target ship is down in seconds... and this is with 425 AC II using T.E. II'.s
Thank you.

Grab some titanium sabot for those pesky approaching inties as well. Tracking bonus + range = win.

Edited by: eek amouse on 28/04/2011 19:06:58 i can't get myself to carry any less than 2000 of all the types, for medium ammo. lately it's been 2500 when i throw more in the cargo. i'm paranoid of coming across a crazy fight. came across a carrier in a wormhole once and it took forever to kill it because we didn't have the numbers at first and i came real close to running out of ammo. barely have any cargo space left, but it's enough for some ded space mods if they drop. :] |

You're actually slightly better off with Depleted Uranium in this situation in my experience. The damage mixture helps you kill off those pesky MSE Stilettos.

This. Titanium Sabot's damage profile makes it ideal against Minmatar T2 frigates, but less than desirable vs any other ship class. Might as well use Depleted Uranium as it's pretty good vs everything.

Barrge (longer ranges) RF phased plasma (shield tankers, t2 amarrian ships) RF fusion (armor tankers, any t2 shield tankers).
Scoop the RF EMP the other guy lost, sell it on the market, thats generally all its good for. Protip- there are 1-2 ships that using EMP is the best option, but its a rarity. Guns don't kill people. onowait. |

EMP is good against a lot of T1 shield tanked ship. Especially Hurricanes with the 2 LSE/3 CDFE set up. Plus dramiels and other t1 shield frigs.

Phased plasma works almost as well on those, and you do not have to waste cargo and reload times. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |
