Hello My brother pointed me to this old topic. Someone made a program or something that allows you to control a ship in eve with a joystick to a certain degree. My brother said that he tried it out and, with some getting used, that is great.
Now that thread is old and without CCPdev or GM answer, so i am interested is that against an EULA or not.
So if it is that i can say to him to stop using that immediately or if its ok that i can try it too.
Thank you for your thoughts, and i would be most grateful if someone from CCP answers to this.

Normally if there is a question about if CCP will allow something under the EULA it recommended that you file a partition and ask.
However there was a thread in the mast couple of months discussing the something similar so it may be worth using eve-search to try and find it. Nor sure if there was a Dev/GM response but it worth checking out to see. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

I've petitioned my hard drive before, but I didn't know how to use FDISK correctly, so I screwed it all up.

lol Should i send partition to systems (C:) petition or the other (D:) one ?
On more serious note... I didnt knew its ok to send a petition with questions more than problems :P
I will send and ask a GM, i am just a little afraid that they dont understand that incorrectly and i unwillingly bring my brother some problems
Anyway... he played eve with joystick the whole day today and its thrilled... "it sure takes some getting used to but than its great" ..he says.
On the other note, i wonder why ccp doesnt add joystick support for eve, it could basically do same thing as double clicking with mouse, the same thing this program presumably does (if i understood correctly how was explained to me).

Joystick control would probably be the most amazing thing ever in the history of anything.

How is this more useful than controlling your movement with a mouse? That actually looks like it would make controlling your ship a pain in the ass.

This idea gets less and less cool as you move up in ship size
It sounds totally awesome for flying interceptors but personally I don't WANT to control a battleship or a capital with a joystick, I feel like it ruins the "really big ship" feeling for me ___________

But all it's doing is moving the camera and clicking for you... The camera doesn't always face the same direction as the ship, so this isn't any different from just moving the camera and clicking with your mouse.
Now what would be really cool is if CCP made a "cockpit camera" option...

File multiple petitions and make sure they all say yes its allowed. Before anybody whines about "wasting GM resources" realize each GM has their own set of voices in their head telling them how to rule on petitions.
Even still, its a crapshoot if its allowed or not. Be prepared for lolbanhammer ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

I honestly dont know how it looks/feels...
My brother showed me this thread today and described me in general how it feels, and later he described me more how it is and controled an orca a few minutes by joystick.
Idk if you ever heard (google it/you tube it(no really its worth it, it has pretty ahead of its time graphic and it has sectional damages to ships)) about a game called klingon academy that i played with joystick very long ago and it involves giant ships, the controlling it was not so bad as you expect it to be... but yeah it was very very slowwww.
And i dont dare to try it out...coz if its against the EULA i dont want to get banned. I told him not to use that thing until he is sure its ok with EULA, and to ask. But i am asking in his place in a way. (he doesnt know how to write english without severe grammar errors :P )

I dont see why using a joystick would be a big deal. You are just emulating the action of a mouse in controlling your self. The Joystick would just allow for more control over the actions in one fluid movment instead of click and move. Hell a joystick may even cure some of the lag due to the transmission of clicks to response.

Exactly. If the game were designed for a joystick and if we were flying fighters and other small craft, that'd be neat, but it's silly for anything bigger than a fighter and maybe a frigate. And that's if we were flying a non-pod ship. -----WARNING SIGNATURE BELOW-----

If you want to be completely sure, and this goes for all instances where you guys come up with cool stuff that interacts with the game client, ask the GMs. A part of their duties is to help players determine if their crazy inventions are in line with the EULA, beforehand. They aren't there to smack people with banhammers for trying to do cool stuff.
Also if any of you come up with an unorthodox tactic or trick to use against your foes in-game and you aren't sure if it's legit or not, ask the GMs. I know they love it when people ask up front and they won't blame you for having a wicked imagination. We employ no thought police :)
This particular case sounds innocent (note: not a final ruling) but I've said no to some CRAAAAZY shiznit in the time I was a GM. Stuff that made me go..."How on Amarr Prime could you ever think that this would not be a complete and horrible violation of the EULA and every decent law in the universe? May the space gods have mercy on your twisted soul.". But at least they asked first!

But I also said yes to a ton of stuff. More often than not the answer is yes.

And if a GM says "yes", what is the proper way to refer to that answer in case an action is taken against my acount because of it at a later date? Is a screenshot of the conversation (or petition) proof enough?

All petitions are safely stored in our database and all communication therein can be looked up by authorized staff at any time.
When GMs cast a ruling on exploits, they always reserve the right to change their minds if new information comes to light or if things change in some way, but of course that is not to say that once they change their minds, people who already got permission will get the smack down. That's on record, and it's a valid agreement until a change of minds has been announced and sufficiently communicated. If you believe a mistake has happened, file a petition and talk to a Senior GM about it.
The bottom line is...the GMs are here to work with you on navigating the more ambiguous parts of the game mechanics and are always at your disposal. |
