So the new forums are coming Soon TM, but let's be honest- these ones are what we have now. How hard would it be then to insert one line of js around the player's name and avatar in each post to do something simple like pop-up the player's info box? (e.g. a 1-liner CCPEVE.showInfo() call)
We have a piece of technology (the IGB) nobody uses and CCP is desperately trying to push it, speaking of endless possibilities if it's properly integrated. So why not show us the light and lead by example? Actually give it some degree of purpose on your own site rather than make us want to just run a non-crippled modern browser over-top of the game if it provides the same browsing functionality anyways.
Conversely, I bet there's someone out there that has a script that does this? Seems easy enough to create using: http://wiki.eve-id.net/APIv2_Eve_CharacterID_XML

There exist useful tools that rely on IGB-specific functionality - tracking sigs in whs, making fleet management more convenient, automating the export of market prices for large quantities of items, ... + many tools which just use the IGB headers for authentication/to prevent unauthorized access.

The ingame browser uses the same engine as Google Chrome and the only way it is "crippled" is it dosen't allow you to download and install dubious third party stuff that might compromise the game ... So, unlike lots of people you don't use it. Thanks for letting us know i guess ?

Last time I checked this thread title wasn't about who used it, but integrating it into the forums.
I could go into length about the usability features (or lack thereof) in the IGB over say a modern browser such as firefox, and if you think engine == browser, then you are sadly mistaken. I can go write a "browser" in Webkit too.
Anyways, the point stands, the forums should work with the IGB, and by work with I mean have usable features tied to things like clicking on character avatars popping up showInfo window, or being able to link contracts and fittings in the forums.

àa better question would be if they're going to make the new forums work at all with the IGB, since they didn't last time they tried.
Maybe after they've fixed that tiny issue, they can try to add in-game stuff as well. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Ff CCP don't get their act together I imagine we can move on ahead without them:
I can imagine writing a light-weight http server (that installs on the client if trust is an issue) to act as a proxy between eveonline.com and the client. So instead of requesting the page from eveonline.com, the player will direct their browser to localhost, which will request the forums for them. Before serving the page it will parse through the HTML, and add functionality for the IGB.
For example, it will pick out the tags that contain player name and avatar, and insert a CCPEVE.showInfo call. Players can drag-drop contracts onto the forums, which is initially converted into HTML code by the game, but can be converted back into a showInfo call by the proxy server. Add Contact buttons can be added under the avatar picture. Locations can be linked and destinations set for autopilot all from the forum.
Obviously it is incredibly more easier for CCP to do this since they have direct access to their database, and can inject any code server-side before the pages are served. But I'm leaving this here in case the new forums and IGB functionality never surfaces, we the players can push on and show them time and again our solutions despite requiring more workarounds are even better than those done in-house.
