TL;DR http://i.imgur.com/B8Fmp.jpg <-- diagram of a star in Eve
So I was bored recently and decided trying to fly to the center of a star in an interceptor. I fit out a reasonable fast claw, didnGÇÖt try to make it anything special though, warped to the local star, and started burning towards it. I found a few things I figured IGÇÖd share for those that always wondered what would happen.
First, for those that donGÇÖt know, sometimes when a cyno is destroyed as you are jumping through you will appear at the center of that systems star and bounce millions of km even in a light ship, farther if the ship has more mass. I wanted to do the same thing, but by flying into the center so I could bookmark it and bounce anytime I wanted. 238,000 km sounds like a long way, but itGÇÖs not so bad AFKing in an interceptor, so off I went.
I created a lot of bookmarks along the way in case my connection dropped or something weird, about 12.7 hours into the journey I reached the star, which I found was only the edge of the hitbox around the star. Think of it like a shield around a POS if youGÇÖve ever added one to your overview. You approach the POS, get closer and closer to the shield, reach 0, and keep going. How much farther could it be to the center? I thoughtGǪ
Turns out the warp in to the end of the hitbox is only about 39% of the journey. The hitbox to the point on the star you bounce at is another 368,078 km away (61% of the total distance). The total distance you need to travel is 606,825 km (appx, I assume itGÇÖs roughly the same for most stars). In my claw, moving about 5,100 m/s, this took about 32.5 hours*.
Something interesting I found, when you reach the center, thereGÇÖs a position not quite at the center, about 250 km away from it, where you bounce. You can never reach the absolute center without the cyno trick. I have the feeling this is similar to a POS shield if you change the password, the closer you are to the center, the more momentum builds, and the faster you get thrown out. So the best you can do is create bookmarks on each side of the center and warp from one to the other at 100 km, putting you 150 km from the center of the star.
If anyone knows a way (other than the cyno, preferably solo) that you can bookmark the real center, let me know.

*I estimate, I didnGÇÖt sit there for all of itGǪ |

and yea, I like finding stuff in Eve that most people seem not to have done before. I've read about people doing this one, but nobody really drew up details on it, I was interested in what would happen. Glad to see a few people liked it. |

Interesting experiment, something I would never have thought of doing. War hasn't been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy, High Chief of all the Vikings, accidentally ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside. CCP can't patch stupidity. |

You're probably right Surfin' :P
Better speed estamate, I ran fraps as I bounced and found the frame with the highest speed... http://i.imgur.com/y5EMa.jpg
Also, since we're now talking about bounce speed, something else I did a while back. Only the first few seconds are entertaining so don't bother watching the entire thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHAOQPfWc0k |

Relax, it's just a re-run: http://www.eve-search.com/thread/1422671-0/page/1 People have done star traveling in the past.
There's NO reason to worry that interesting and intelligent threads are taking over GD. So stop worrying and learn to love the GD.

I figured those that haven't done this or seen it done might like knowing all the little stuff. Honestly though, I expected a lot more people to tell me it was old news by now, I'm glad everyone seems to like the details. |

I got something star-related to tell. It was quite odd. Not sure if i can retell it 100% exact, but it should be close enough.
There was an empty pod (yes, that happens) somewhere really close to the star and i probed it down. I warped to it and saw it passing on the overview. I was closer to the star than the pod was.
So the pod was like 1000+ km away ... i probed it again and warped towards it. Forward ... away from the star.
I saw the pod pass by in the overview ... but I got closer.
Now the fun thing was, that when i probed again and warped towards it ... ... i again warped forward ... and again passed the pod ... and got closer to it.
I did it again ... again warped forward, away from the star ... and passed it.
My ship NEVER turned around ... it was as if i was in some huge gravity field, bending space into a sphere or something. It took me probably half a quarter to half an hour warping straight forward, and i kept passing the pod until i finally landed on grid with it.
That was quite an interesting experience ... thought it fits into this thread. :)
(edit: thank you for this really good thread! :) Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire |

Thanks going to pop that on while playing, I like quite a bit from that decade. For one, musicians knew how to play their instruments, crazy, but true.
