I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed yet. I'm at work on lunch break and was just thinking it would be nice to use teamsound, teamspeak or battlecomm.
I mentioned it to someone ingame last night and they seemed convinced it wouldn't work with Eve because of a CCP intentional limitation or processor priority. It sounded like BullShtuff so I looked around a bit and have found no indications of that sort.
I figure it couldn't hurt to try. These applications take very lil' resources but I still wanted to check if anyone knew something more before I tried. SO; Was that person full of it? Have I missed some information source?
If there are no significant cons, I'm gonna give her a try tonight. Any input could be useful.

Web, I have seen recruitment officers on the recruitment channel mentioning the fact they they use voice chat rather than the typing chat interface. I have not used it myself and cannot remember the names of the Corps currently using it. Sounds like it works though.

TeamSpeak makes it a lot more efficient, the majority of Drucker Systems are using it aswell.

Teamspeak works great with eve.
www.teamspeak.org
They make a Linux and Windows client and server. Both are free. Both are well supported and constantly being updated and refined.
Once you use voice coms in a game like this you will nvever want to type again.

Voice comms programs do work with EVE, some people swear by such things.
I think people may have been trying to inform you that EVE has no voice comms system of its own, which you know. Bandwidth for 56k players is something that limits this as a possibility (without pushing out these players).
Maybe, some day, when dial-up is near extinction, EVE will have a voice comm system of its own. Some people will prefer to use text, though, because of the advantages in roleplay. --
