I just got done training marauders even though I have no reason to every fly or buy one. This is the next truly stupidly long skill that I am training just because I have nothing else to do in the game. TBH I never thought I would bother getting the prerequisites for these ships.
Without this turning into a classic EVE is dieing thread, I would like to ask if subscriptions have been down. Each time I log in I am seeing people online in the lower 30's and as of this moment only 28K. When I was active about a year ago I seem to recall allot higher numbers on tranquility.
Alternatively...
I am noticing allot more people online everyday on singularity. The old cap seemed to be around 200, two days ago there was 2,000. I don't know, nor do I care whether or not there was a mass test this weekend. But at this exact moment singularity is registering 2031 online. This seems like a big change to me. Can anyone confirm of deny this?
It is like not seeing a relative for several years, then one Christmas you realize they gained a whole bunch of weight and their hair turned grey. That many on singularity and that few on tranquility seems a little odd to me, and it may suggest that overall interest in EVE online as a whole is waning. I know that it is for me.

I guess I can post again in winter if it still seems low. It will probably take me that long to log in again. But at least 2,000 people are enjoying the freeplay of sisi in place of the actual game on tranquility.

As for sisi, could it be that now that Dust is on sisi, you're seeing the increased numbers based on that?

Tranquility population graphs. It does appear that there's a dip every year around August-October. Probably students heading back to school and having to rearrange their schedules. However you do seem to be possibly correct that this year wasn't quite as active as last year. It's not "EVE is dieing" levels, but it's the first year there wasn't a marked increase. |

What time did you log on then vs what time do you log on now? You need to be careful not to equate moving the timezone of your play time to dropping subs/engagement. Seriously, the difference between logging on at the end of EU TZ and logging on just before AUS TZ starts is quite impressive - and is about what you described.

Also if you're training marauders and you can afford them you might wanna check out the Golem and the Kronos which I hear are both very good at what they do, also the Vargur saw a lot of use in the last alliance tournament so those seem to be popular at the moment with the people who can fly those kinda ships. Oh and as far as this turning into another EVE is dieing thread I hope not, we already have one of those here.
For clarification, that thread is not about Eve dying. If you read the thread you will see I hope and anticipate it lasting for 11 more years. It really was brought up to suggest a truly NPC environment and what peoples reaction to that would be; I used the hypothetical end of Eves existence to place it in a consequence free environment, at least from a business p "The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds, given adequate vacuuming systems." |

watching the replys i have to say eve players are really hardcore trying to tell themselves all is well and are in denial that numbers really are low.. first it was spring and summertime and diablo launch. THAT IS WHY NUMBERS ARE DOWN. and now its oh yea schools started and some other game launched... major blobs in this game namely one huge coalition are killing 0.0 gameplay and suicide ganking freighters and jf from left and right in highsec as suicideganking freighters is so easy and cheap and results in huge loot. but its not all because of that. game is stagnating and people are losing will to play. |

Aside from various Summer Of Rages, that graph looks pretty reasonable. You have to consider a few things: - They're auto banning bots now. - The slide stopped in Nov 2011 (as it does every year) - Year over year we're actually doing better than last year (this isn't hard - lolmonaclegate)

Don't tell me you are going to ARGUE over legitimate statistics.
It did reached another small peak in April during the post-FanFest Debacle, but has been on an obvious slide again.

Eh. I see populations in the low 40's over the weekends, and that's as high as I've ever seen EVE go. (A few times as high as the 50's, but that was before the CQ fiasco and the great lag-fest that large-scale combat has turned into). The subscriber base seems pretty static, actually -- it doesn't grow much, but it doesn't shrink much either.
DUST has eaten up a lot of CCP's resources, and I keep hoping that after DUST is live the company will make some long-needed changes to the EVE client -- the window GUI and art assets desperately need an upgrade, as does the whole missioning system. EVE is already a formidably complicated game; the outdated and complex UI is just another way the game scares off many new players. Worse yet, the client is really badly-optimized and needs performance tuning.

You need to compare the bases before the Oct/Nov - Jan/Feb peak. Year over year, we're not doing nearly as poorly as you claim. The real question is how we're going to be able to do anything with these numbers once Dust Bunnies are counted in the online stats. :)

For the record: Sun 2012-09-02 GÇö 47,079 PCU (trending straight downwards). Sun 2011-09-04 GÇö 46,625 PCU (trending towards bottom of an upwards-trending saw-tooth pattern).
Compare last year's numbers with the numbers for this year. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

I've seen over 60,000 online at a time, but that was years ago. I forget what happened, but there was some CCP change that caused a massive stink and a huge chunk of EvE's bitterest vets quit en masse. I don't remember if it was because of Dust or the captains cabin thing or something else around that same time.
Interestingly enough, right after all those people left there was a campaign to get new people to join right afterward. As someone on a different forum said it best, "EvE is one of the only games that would actually benefit by having a of veteran players quit, as they currently have so much power that they bottleneck the game for any new players trying to join & advance their in-game lives." Speculation: Dust will run on a separate server; we only interact at certain points. Therefore, separate server, separate numbers. |
