i was playing S.P.A.Z (Space Pirate And Zombies) the other day and i noticed the use of deployable turrets in the battlefield.
so i came with this idea for some flavor in terms of combat in EVE:
Deployable Turrets:
1. would be deployed like scanning probes, and like them, they could be ordered to move to another location.
2. limited range (depending in the metalevel)
3. four types of turrets according to the 4 damage types.
4. infinite ammo but reduced DPS, like combat drones.
5. apart from combat turrets there could be logistic turrets and maybe even mining turrets, like some sort of mini POSes.
for example a miner could deploy them with their drones as extra protection while mining in a belt.
6. they couldnt be anchored. since the idea isnt to have a permanent object, they would last the same time as common containers, 2 hours.
7. there could be dedicated deployment ships. |

Alright, I bite. You will get the nicest answer possible.
Deployable turrets would literally be impossible for Eve due to game balancing. If we could deploy turrets this would be abused in zero zero space and / or even wormhole space. The problem is with the current interdiction sphere mentality would become even more dangerous when suddenly turrets without pilots could be deployed. You would remove a significant danger and active participation element from Eve. |

You are really just asking for more drones i think. Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

Probably a hijack, but maybe you should or could consider module ideas that alter sentry and heavy drones on the field. Would give more sense to drone boats as well as pilots who skilled in them. (like -x% speed, +y something else. As scripts would do)
Most suggestions sound cool at first, but aside to all that was mentioned, veterans are always on the lookout for exploiting things. As somebody said, dictor bubble with these on the field is quite possible too.
On the other hand, leaving the field with drones (minus fighters) usually cuts the connection. Also, there are several games that show it is possible to direct AI objects in a three dimensional field. I'm guessing there is yet another game engine-related restriction - but if not, tactical overlay and commanding AI things around could work after all. Check out "Homeworld gameplay" vids on youtube for reference.
But lastly, the current drone setups already cover most (if not all) functions you suggestion. confirthisposmed
I'm probably typing on a Tablet too, which means the auto-correct is silly and fixing typos is a pain. I ain't fixing them. |

Deployable Turrets:
1. would be deployed like scanning probes, and like them, they could be ordered to move to another location. So you want to be able to remotely control something from a safe place?
2. limited range (depending in the metalevel) The max locking range is 249km. Normally in eve; the greater the distance the less damage you will do. But combine a large amount of anything and the damage increases. So you will need to consider range, dps, and the amount of turrets that can be deployed at any given time.
3. four types of turrets according to the 4 damage types. Ok sure.
4. infinite ammo but reduced DPS, like combat drones. The only way to make this happen is to make them fire lasers. Other wise I say you should have to carry ammo just like any pos mod.
5. apart from combat turrets there could be logistic turrets and maybe even mining turrets, like some sort of mini POSes.
for example a miner could deploy them with their drones as extra protection while mining in a belt.
Logistic Turrets - these will be no more then one large remote rep? If so sure, I not if it is any more then that it might be over powered Mining turrets - Only if there really slow and you can only control 1 maybe 2 of them. They should be something new players use to help get isk in the start
6. they couldnt be anchored. since the idea isnt to have a permanent object, they would last the same time as common containers, 2 hours.
Eh Idk that could make them kind of costly for what will be gained. But on the other hand if use in combat it would be interesting.
7. there could be dedicated deployment ships. Alright but how many will it hold, how will it hold them? Will it have any other weapons? How tank-able will it be? To be honest it sounds like a drone boat.
My response is in bold. GM Homonoia: In other words; feel free to use the tactic, but don't be an utter and total ***. |

the deployer ship would use a launcher module similar to the probe launcher. the bonuses for it are yet to be developed. but the idea is to give a new type of combat. think it like the Chaman's Totems in WoW.
this idea of course was made before knowing about sentry drones. so i have to think how could i improve it in order to give other approach.

I think they mean a sentry drone that you can fly away from and it shots at anyone who walks by.
They used to have mines in EVE. The problem is that there was no counter to them and they caused amazing lag.
That said, the new POSs (covered in the CSM notes) can be placed anywhere. They could act as one of these guns you are talking about. In effect, it is already planned. Drop down a bubble and you got yourself a ship BBQ. |

nice, i have a question, the game has repairing POSes?. i know POSes are meant for moon mining and manufacture. some scrambling and defense but i've never seen a repair structure.
i could change the concept for a new type of deployable logistic sentry drones for example. |
