Does anyone more than me have problem with the computer restarting after the latest patch. I have a soundblaster value! card and I cant have the sounds on during gameplay. Really annoying.

Hmm,
Odd...
Firstly, I would close any other program using sound, like winamp etc.
Then I would try different drivers, either updating them to newer ones or rolling back to a known stable version.
If that doesn't work, use the lastest drivers for your sound card, uninstall eve and download the full client and install that.
finally, if none of the above works, check that the card is seated in the slot correctly... i know itsa long slot but I had an issue with one particular game where it would not play sound, and pushing into the slot properly fixed it.
hope that helps

Hi,
I have been having problems for awhile now with the computer crashing out totaly and getting a bluescreen with "irql not equal or less" might not be the exact phrase. Anyway the problem is apparently caused by device drivers or 3rd party software sharing resourses and conflicting.
By procees of elimination it turned out to be the SB live5.1 card I have installed. Even on the creative website there is no correct XP driver for this and the only one is the standard XP drivers that install themselves. So basicaly i thought i was stuffed by this and was going to get another card.
However I was told that if you ignore creatives advice (put soundcard in lowest pci slot) and move it from the bottom slot as far up as you go alot of problems are solved. I did this 4 days ago now and not had the system crash once since...This might not sound a big deal but it was crashing every other hour before while running eve.
Try it and see... Hope it helps

Edited by: Shai Faetal on 10/02/2005 19:51:13 i have a soundblaster card and i'll tell u i never heard any sound coming out of eve , if i by any chance ever do hear anything it is folowed by a ctd or even worse a complete restart of my pc.
best practice: ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+F12 (disable all sounds) not only will this lower the chance of a ctd to "0", but wil also make the more more smooth, cuz sound causes lag in eve.
/me thinks next time my cpu starts to smoke (less then 32 hours), me wil try Shaemell Buttleson advise

Thanx for the replies mates, I'll try moving my soundcard for it is in the lowest of pci ports. Runned the game without sounds and then it did not crash so it is definatly a souncard/driver conflict.
Cheers and may your journeys be safe.

if you are moving your card around, I wuiold advise against putting it into the top slot as, Asaik, it shares resources with the AGP card slot that may exist there :) ------------------------- DEFEND THE EMPEROR - Join us! Evemail, or visit http://www.amacor.co.uk/isgdforum |
