As a new pilot, I'm still exploring a relatively small area of space however I'm keen to explore further and further.
I've been told that I should visit the Eve Gate.
Can you guys suggest any 'must see' places? Please, please don't ruin the suprpise of what I may find, just let me have your suggestions for excellent places! Thanks!

the systems arround "Dead End" are very interesting :)

The EVE gate is indeed a weird thingie and worth seeing,its located in ¦¦New Eden``.The ¦¦monolith``(altho several exist nowadays,even in missions  ),is located in ¦¦Dead End``,in some moon of a planet,cant remember which,ask around or use scanner,its not far from gate actually.Core systems got tons of planets from where you can see eve¦s major cities and populations,among others.Amarr has tons of monumental structures outside stations.

Within 200km of some asteroid belts are abandoned/destroyed structures that spawn rats... Interesting variety of wreckage nonetheless...

city of god, (one of my first tourist destinations)
sosala planet 4 ( think(its near one of the stargates, might be a moon)) it has beautiful rust clouds
the abandoned gate locations (yulai, amongst other systems)
the 10/10 complex of XZH
ice belts look nice too.
there are other things u just see while on ur day to day life, like statues of the emperior, destroyed stations, broken signs that say VERy funny things and much much more, u think u have seen it all....... but u havent
get in an alt, get a shuttle and fly round 0.0,

I agree, flying around 0.0 space can be interesting  .
Once you know how to work the map etc easily, head towards a system with loads of people in it, you may be lucky and witness a large-scale battle  .
Of course, if you do decide to explore 0.0, be prepared to die a lot, as they don't welcome tourists like Empire space does

running around the alliances can be exciting, obviously in an alt is best. gets you intouch with galaxy politics to a degree if that interests you

Someone else mentioned 'City of God' to me - I couldn't find it on the map search - which system is it in?

If you open the map and go to "display settings > Labels" and tick landmark options, the city of god will show up.
For a backstory of that landmark check out the EVE Chronicle titled (funnily enough) "City of God"

New Caldari has a big statue outside of it. I always make a point of visiting it when I pass through there...
