hi im looking to train towards a nullsec ratting ship to fund my pvp in the future (like killing battleships and fc's i guess ? for most isk chaining, farming whatever ..)
so could u give me a lowdown of the best all round ratting ships, and why they are ?
like in this order maybe ? :
best for escaping other players - cheapest / disposable good ratting ship - fastest npc killer - ...etc
... stuff like that. thanks !

was about to say nightmare until i saw cheapest/disposable. lol. definitely good at killing rats quick. not sure about escaping other players. i guess if youre quick enough or have intel you could escape before they get to you. It is impossible to pod Chuck Norris. |

Any tech 3 ship is excellent for ratting, but doesnt exactly fall in the cheap/disposable category.
One ship that comes to mind is the Ishtar, lots cheaper then t3s, is very versatile and performs very well for most situations.

Your best option will depend on the local rat types and your chosen activity.
For something disposable to do anoms, a tier 1 battleship is generally a good choice. They do strong damage, have sufficient tank, and they're cheap. If you have more money and balls you can use a pirate bs, t3, marauder, or even a carrier. It's possible for a really slick scout to catch you
For belts: t3 high end, hac low end. Bigger stuff works, of course, but big is slow.

Depends what NPC type.
I like ganky shield cruisers myself.

Stealth Bomber is surprisingly good indeed , till you meet a spawn with AF/inties npc, then you go boom pretty fast ; which is quite annoying if you want to chain the belts.
You can either choose a good old BS, rats in belts are weak and any tier 1 bs will do the job fine, Insure it to full, fit with meta 3 crap and rat to your heart content. If you meet a gank squad around a gate, you wont loose that much.

Heavy Pulse Harbinger. Relatively cheap, 50-60ish mill for full T2 fit (not rigs obv.) depending on where and how you get your stuff, in fact 60 million might be quite upwards on the scale - kills stuff dead (even Angels) fairly fast, excellent cap efficiency with proper mods and skills, and you can put up a fight against players enough for them to disengage.
I've done few ratting excursions in to 0.0 with it, and have managed to kill some T2 & faction frigs that have happened to harass me. Obviously though you should always have your ship pointing towards an escape route, but a few times I've been caught my pants down at a gate with light patrols. But basicly, every time I've lost it has been on a mass gate camp or heavy firepower, even with a Neut Curse & Beam Apoc on my case I managed to pop their tackler Dramiel as a parting gift.

I'm quite a fan of the marauder for null sec bearing. I wouldn't necessarily use it for belt ratting, but for anomalies and complexes its great.
One of the advantages is that you can fit a cloak, a probe launcher and a tractor beam without sacrificing dps, and with the right load-out it kills npc's extremely quickly. The downside of course is that they're slow, expensive, skill intensive to train for, and not really any good for PvP. So you either need to find a system that you like and stay there, or if you plan to move around a bit then make sure you have scout alt's and access to a decent intel channel.
After that then anything goes really, T3 is good but once again expensive. HAC's are good, BC's are good, even assault frigs are fine. Or just a plain tech 1 BS... What ever you feel like that has damage types fitting the rats your trying to kill.
If you're going belt ratting then personally I'd go with a gank fitted HAC or BC , you wont need much tank as belt rats are generally pretty weak and they only show up in small numbers. But of course if you come across a faction / officer spawn you might need to get another ship or call for reinforcements.

A SB is usually fine, but if you prefer some variety in your ratting, I'd recommend the following:
Drake with 6xHAM, core probe launcher, cloak, AB, active omnitank, gravity cap rigs(!), tech2 hobos, some BCU. Fill your hold to the brim with HAMs, as you will stay out there for a long time. I usually waste around 16.000 missiles during a single nullsec run (which on average nets me half a billion in bounties + loot).
Probe your to 0.0 through some wormholes - or head straight out if you prefer it the hard way. After you passed the choke points, camps are easily avoided using statistics in the mapview.
In case local peaks (it may happen a lot in the more profitable regions): launch probes, go cloaky. Either wait until the blob disappears, probe your way out through the next WH, probe out a plex for ratting "under their radar" or continue belt ratting with an eye on directional. With only one or two ppl in local, it's usually enough to watch directional and burn away from asteroid warpins using AB. Be carefull if the same person stays in local for over a minute, he's out for hunting you.
6 HAM launchers + tech2 drones are enough to quickly take out the battleship rats. Use AB to get into HAM range, by the time the rat pops, you should have entered looting distance.
Try to go as deep ito 0.0 as possible and avoid cheap factions. You will encounter several faction spawns and domination stuff is more shiny than guristas', if you catch my drift. You can do the odd C1/C2 WH or some plex in between if you get tired of the same rats all the time.
