Hi,
did anyone here use a Blaster gank Falcon with some success? Idea is to select targets wisely, sneak in range and appear suddenly. Basically a Pilgrim tactic...only the Blaster Falcon is able to deal a good bit more damage on paper (340 DPS with Hobgobs). Pilgrim has 10k more EHP on the other side.
I know the Rook deals damage much better. The whole point of the gank Falcon is sneaky attack.
I EFTd this one, could it work as the Caldari Pilgrim?

IF you're going to do this, I'd suggest, just like on the Rook, go all jam and gank, and rely on the ECM to be your tank. Don't attack anything you can't reliably jam. Also, be aware of ships (like Gals or other Cal ships) that have very high thermal/kinetic resists. I'd also suggest a scram/web combo. That gives you 4 jammers, scram, web, and prop mod. Then, drop the shield rigs for 2x Jamming Augment rigs. You can make the determination about which jammer mix gives you the best chances. If you're going all multis, I suggest investing in some DG invuls.

just stack 4 jammers of one race, and fight only ships from that race.
When you mean pilgrim tactic, im assuming solo ganking pve ships.

Nope. Never, ever fly a ship like that solo without buffer. Drones will still auto-aggro and missing a cycle is still a possibility. IIRC my Merlins have more EHP than an untanked Caldari recon. At least fit an LSE. _________________________________

Can it be done? Yes
Why isn't it done more? The dice-factor of ECM that tend to work in your favour when you are not comitted to a fight, tend to work against you when you are.
Most people don't like losing ships on luck of the draw.

That's why I added the caveat about not ever attacking anything you can't reliably jam. On a Falcon, against a solo target up to BC class (without ECCM), there's very few circumstances out there where you can't get a practically 100% chance. Different strokes I guess...

Anyone with any sort of local rep will easily tank a Falcon. Your one hope is catching PvE fits in a situation where you will add enough DPS that the rats will provide the extra punch to kill. That means you will be going after missioners/plexers/etc. No probe launcher = no dice.
The Pilgrim can fit a probe launcher, a couple of neuts, turret ewar, drone DPS, Drone EWAR, buffer/repper, etc. I don't even hesitate to go after battleships in a Pilgrim.

With multispecs, you're still looking at about a 50% chance on just a Hurricane. All it takes is one missed cycle and you're going to be one pricey wreck. That's why a buffer pays off. _________________________________

With 4 multispecs? I'm showing a 99% jam chance in EFT on a Cane targeted with 4 overheated DG multis... (4 jammers X 67% jam chance each) Regardless, a Falcon with a single LSE that doesn't jam said Cane is going to be just as dead as the one with no buffer.

It works fine. The hard part is finding a target suitable to kill, but I guess it's just as hard for the Pilgrim.

Edited by: W0wbagger on 13/05/2011 12:57:52 As long as the target is solo you will generally be ok or be able to GTFO - an LSE is good for buffer but you want an mwd and a web really as its slow and neutrons are awful at tracking. I alternate between 3 mag stabs in the lows or a dc and 2, depending on what you're after. Generally stuff with small drones is fine but be careful of stuff with 50mb of drones as hammerheads can screw you over as your buffer is still pretty low.
Minmi is the easiest to jam and fortunately are very popular for solo pvp so you can do stuff like this:

Always run with 3x multi but carry racials in your hold as you never know what you'll fine and you might have the opportunity to dock and refit if needed.
It's a really fun ship and also really fun to just fly away from bait when the gang is about to land.
Also, jam strength rigs and recon 5 are immense with dg multis.
(it does suck for the guy you're fighting though)

That's a good example of the potential...

Everyone should use the fits in this thread.
This way, no one will ever complain about the falcon again.

I use a similar setup for my Falcon. The reason why I have tank is because I'm a pirate and I have to tank sentry guns.
