New poster, been playing <1 yr, been reading the forums since I started playing EVE.
Haven't visited nullsec (apart from W-space) yet (flame away!), but I read a lot of folks complaining about big alliances dominating nullsec.
So here's how to nerf that "problem" (if anyone wants to):
Make fees exponential. e.g. each new corp joining an alliance costs twice as much as the last.
Example: 2-corp alliance, fees 4m ISK (as now); 3-corp alliance, fees 8m ISK; 4-corp alliance, fees 16m ISK; so when you get to a 10-corp alliance, maintenance fees are 1bn ISK.
This would make it a LOT cheaper to be in a small alliance, and would make mega alliances prohibitively expensive.
Would this work?

Hmm, yeah, thanks for the contructive comments. Right back at ya.
Given your alliance has 23 corps and 10 systems (not exactly top of the leaderboard), do you see this idea as a threat to what you have, or could it be an opportunity to balance nullsec and encourage more people to head out to null?

I won't just completely shoot you down about this. I understand what you're saying. but heres the loophole.
Coalitions. already exist and in massive numbers.
all you'd get if you did things your way would be much greater numbers of smaller alliances in the same coalitions.
This would also ruin the Alliance fleet perspective alittle because you'd not be able to form up as big fleets because your Alliance chat would be limited to say 1/10th of your coalitions actual size rather than say 1/3.
which means you'd end up with a dedicated Coalition chat channel, alliance channel would become unused etc etc.
plenty of knockon effects.

Thanks for taking time to explain Darak, that makes a lot of sense. I was wondering how prevalent informal alliances were - sounds like that would make this idea unworkable.
So much to learn in this game

No problem at all. I'm reasonably new to the game myself but after flying in Null Sec Corps/Alliances for 9 months I have a bit more of an insider perspective.
to sum up your question about Informal Alliances. they are everything. Its the Coalitions that rule Eve for the most part rather than the Alliances themselves.

Even assuming "large alliances" are a problem in nullsec (they are not), this wouldn't solve the problem.
You're wrong on both counts. Stop Posting.

Well, there's your problem...
PS
Imagine all those iskseller using this trick to make their alliances the biggest in the game. That'd nerf things alright. You'd turn us into the Chinese server...

@OP you're absolutely right, if your objective is to make sure that nullsec has only small groups.
There's not much point in doing that, however. It'll still be nullsec, and it'll still be dominated by the folks who make home there. If you want a cut of the pie, join one of the corporations or alliances that live out there.
I lived in highsec for a few months, and went out to nullsec on occasion. All I could make out was that the few folks I met here and there never spoke a word and always always tried to kill me. It was when I made a post in the recruitment forum asking to join a nullsec corp, that I got lots of responses really quick. I found out folks in nullsec are really quite social, but have to sneak around and kill everyone they see for security reasons.
I've only lived in nullsec for a few months, but it's pretty easy to adapt to. You learn to stick to "blue" regions and check local a lot. That's about it really.

Give the guy a break...
He readily admitted he had no experience of 0.0, up front and honestly. Then he made a suggestion, phrased at the end as a question: "Would this work?" He hasn't been a jerk about it, so there's no need to flame him.

The recently announced jump bridge nerf is pretty nasty for big alliances/coalitions. Maybe there's more to come? who knows...
People cuddling together in large groups to protect themselves is the most natural thing in the world. With Eve being the sandbox kind of game, it's no surprise we see this. Since there's still room for the smaller groups in between the giants, i see no problem yet.

Yeah, and my 23 corp alliance would be paying how much exactly? If I've done this right, over 8 trillion isk. According to dotlan we have 1600 members.
All you'd do would be to cause alliances to merge all of their corps into one, or to splinter into hundreds of one or two system aliances.

umm they just have to tear 1 down, move to next system and done. Adds a whopping minute or 2 for the gate jump to travel time, yep this will be alliance ending . Pos slaves may hate the extra work...but well they are pos slaves, they'll get over it.

You did post this because you did read stuff on a forum, stuff that got posted by other people you don't know? And you want to solve a problem with that? Right.. Try again and be prepared next time, cause you already played the 'I'm-just-a-green-noob-card'.
