Of the various racial force recon ships, which ones are considered the best for solo roaming in low sec?
Trying to work on a focus towards in my skill sets. Right now can handle all but the minmatar ones, but have far more ECM skills vs other ewar.
I like the ability to pick my targets with a lot of care, prefer something that can tank a bit while still burning down cruisers/frigate hulls

Well got about a month for the rapier.. did a quick fit for a pilgrim (my ewar skills suck when it comes to the TDs so went with ECCM till I can get them up to spec)
Will have to pick targets carefully I know. Went with the guns, but playing around with nos/neuts in all the highs too in eft.
This fit actually is cap stable, but thinking of replacing the cap recharger with a booster to offset nos/neut attacks easier

I would recommend using a cap booster, and fit a tracking disrupter with tracking disruption script, get rid of guns and add more neuts.
What you want to do with a pilgrim when engaging a pve ship is neut all their cap while they are taking fire from rats while taking minimum damage from his turrets by staying in close orbit with your AB + TD on.

PLEASE do NOT fly a pilgrim fit the way you have it, or you will find out what its like to lose a recon within moments of flying it lol

So something like this? Probably switch to a larger cap booster charge, this is cap stable but with 50s I'd have a little bit of play vs other neut/nos. (yeah I know cap isn't king like pve, but I want to keep it alive so I need cap for the tank)
Not happy at having to downgrade the plate, but still a decent buffer if I pick targets carefully.

You wont find too many people to kill in low sec in a solo recon, except teh occasionnal newbie, not worht the time spent to roam tbh. Anything bigger than a cruiser would pose a very serious threat, even a ruppie pilot with enough SP will be a challenge.

Edited by: Kyle Renton on 13/05/2011 12:51:19 The Pilgrim is, as noted, the best Cloaky Recon for going solo and catching people to kill. The others lack the ability to break the tank whilst keeping the target locked down. Targets will be gunships, and so you rely on the TD to keep DPS down. Navy Cap Boosters are worth it.

Alternatively you can go with small armor repairer and 1600mm plate. Also I prefer to have warrior IIs in my bay for when an inty tries to lock you down from range as you gank their friend. I therefore go for 5 Warrios IIs and 5 ECM-300s.
The plate is there for tanking drone DPS whilst you kill them, or for gun dps as you get into orbit.
The small neut is for keeping them capped out once you have nuked them with the full rack, the 6s cycle time is very useful for that purpose.
There is one more Pilgrim fit that can be fun to play with for the cloaky gank, which relies on the great range of scorch pulse and the drone DPS to kick out approx 500 dps from a range the target can't hit you from whilst also being able to close in to load AN Multis and overheat to finish them off, but it is usually better to stick with the neut setup. IĈm at work so going from memory, might need slightly modifying to give it a bit more lasting cap:-
[Pilgrim, MAR + laser kite] Medium Armor Repairer II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II
10MN MWD II Warp Disruptor II F-392 Baker Nunn Tracking Disruptor I, Optimal Range Disruption F-392 Baker Nunn Tracking Disruptor I, Optimal Range Disruption Medium Capacitor Booster II, Navy Cap Booster 800
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Focused Medium Pulse II Focused Medium Pulse II Focused Medium Pulse II
Rigs to suit, either gun DPS and RoF, or Nano Rigs, Tank rigs will only slow you down.

Medium Egress Port Maximizer I Medium Egress Port Maximizer I
Hammerhead II x6 Vespa EC-600 x3 Warrior II x6 Hornet EC-300 x2 Hammerhead II x1 Hornet II x2
Use a scrambler for hitting PVP ships, a Disrupter for PVE (Intended target, not advisable to use a disrupter for PVP or they'll MWD away and lower transversal, but scrambler is too shorter range for quick tankling for PVE hunting)
Great ship for hitting ratters, and dual prop for cap conserving/sig tanking and still having the speed to get though bubbles/catch ratters not at 0.
Only problem is you're VERY dependent on cap boosters, and can only hold 10. ------------------------

Once again, pack 400s not 800s, it's still stable with everything but that mwd on, and you'll be ABing. And you can go with Navy ones for 3 per reload and even more in the cargo. |

tight fit, and pulsing the med neut I can keep it all running fine. has a 153dps omni tank and about 30k ehp. So i should be able to tank most drones (if I pick non-droneboats), and with them take out the drones first with my own.
The Vespas are really my try to get out card, don't always work but worth a shot.
edit: can replace one rig with a CCC one and just pulse one of the small neuts for a cap stable fit using the medium neut

Wat? Seriously I have recon 4 and it's fine for both cpu and pg even before cheap implants like PG4. If anything, get meta4 scram and web and then TD. And you might want to dedicate 1 rig to thermal resist, as top dps drones dish that out and your explosive resist is uber against the other common types. |

Well tight in the fact I had to downgrade one energized to a plain adaptive... not happy about it.
downgrading to meta 4 I get my eap back! And dropping the nanobot gives me 2k more ehp in this fit, though only a tank dps of 137 pts so not too bad of a hit

You really want as many medium neuts as you can fit. As you should only be targeting active tanked turret PVE ships, the faster you kill their cap, the faster you can kill him and gtfo.
