Represent! You know who you are...
If you played WoW at some point for any significant period of time, it's about time to pop off.
1. When you played. 2. How long did you play. 3. Race, Class, Spec [for your main] 4. Why'd you leave? [Did you?] 5. Why EvE?

I have a horrible feeling is going to get trolled.
But I'm interested to see why a WoW player turns to our internet spaceships.

1) don't remember exactly, over 4 years ago 2) about a minute... not including making my character 3) human, as I don't care for fantasy, soldier because it was the first option and I didn't care 4) I wasn't playing it to play it, I wanted to know something about it so I could trash talk it (no offense to those who like it, but I don't) 5) I like spaceships...
Ok, expanding on 5.
I've seen every Trek episode/movie, every Wars movie, every B5 episode, every Firefly episode, most of BSG... And only 15. I'm a fan of science fiction, especially involving space travel/life. So when I found EVE, I was hooked before I started playing.
However, I don't think I should count towards any data gathering, kind of an outlier.

Figured I should add my own
1. February 2005 - February 2011 2. 6 years [a couple breaks here and there] 3. Human, Paladin, Protection 4. Too repetitive and not enough options. Felt like it was this endless cycle of the same crap every few months - level, raid, gear over and over and over again. 5. Love sci-fi and this fit the bill.
I actually played EvE for the first time 5 years ago, though I was a very part-time player. At that point, I started hardcore raiding in WoW and chose that over EvE.
Glad I could come back.

hmmm, let's see....
1. When I was very high on some premium grade pot 2. Free trial 3. I was a human chick I think, don't remember, don't even know... I just ran around the town with no clothes on screaming that someone gave me a roofie and I didn't know where my clothes were. 4. Free trial expired and I was no longer high 5. Because Eve rocks

1. When you played: September 2004 to July 2010 2. How long did you play: Nearly 6 years it seems 3. Race, Class, Spec [for your main]: Tauren warrior, protection/fury 4. Why'd you leave? It was getting too easy, Blizzard kept catering to the scrubs. Fortunately, my HDD died so I unsubbed and haven't missed it since. 5. Why EvE? It was nearly the gaming opposite of WoW; where WoW was easy, colourful and gentle EVE is dark, gritty and endlessly tries to ruin your day. Love it. Plus I've always prefered Sci-Fi over fantasy There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |

Edited by: Slightly Green on 14/05/2011 09:35:27 1. When you played. 2005+
2. How long did you play. A few months, took a couple of years off, then got back into it for a year when some friends were playing.
3. Race, Class, Spec [for your main] Night Elf, Druid, Feral (tank) Raiding on a PVP server.
4. Why'd you leave? [Did you?] Friends left for other games. Raiding started to feel like work, and real life got in the way. The broadband connections down here in New Zealand have never been great for competitive PVP. (ie: I sucked at it.)
5. Why EvE? Been playing Eve since before WoW was more than a rumour and have never been bored with it.

1. 2007 till March of this year. 2. 2 hours a night for four years... 3. Night Elf Rogue, Assassin/Subtlety 4. Came to EVE, originally only temporarily. Stayed. Left WoW because I became sick of the constant cycle of grinding the same few dungeons to get new gear, felt pressurised by timescale of patches and raiding requirements, last two expansion packs were very samey in their goals; whole game just felt limited and repetitive. 5. Wanted to try an SF MMO again after WoW/Guild Wars/Ultima Online. Loved the skill system, sandbox nature of the gameplay, graphics, character creator, and so on...

1. From early 2005 to Sindragosa HC25 2. See above 3. Holy Priest until TBC, then a shaman with all 3 specs in competitive gearsets 4. I got bored, also PvE was too easy, PvP was running around pillars for 30 minutes straight, then waiting 10 minutes for a new match(World 25th Tribute to Insanity 25-man + high 1900's in 3v3) 5. In Eve, you keep training even if nothing else happens

Edited by: Ghoest on 14/05/2011 13:14:33 Ive played maybe 15-20 different MMOs(some just in beta) and most then since I started playing EVE, including WOW.
I had fun playing WOW for 5 or so months whn it came out. It was like landing in an exciting cartoon story. I had my fill then, but it was good times.

1. 2008-2009, about a week when Cata came out 2. About a year 3. Human Prot Warrior 4. I found EvE. When I went back for Cata, saw WoW was still boring as ****. 5. PVP that means something.

1) From last summer to 5 months ago, when I was getting bored with EVE and wanted a break. 2) 7 months 3) Undead Protection Warrior 4) Got to 85, got bored with endgame, left. 5) Played EVE for 2 years before I touched WoW, and during my MMO experimentation I concluded EVE was the most satisfying.

1. About 8-10 months ago. 2. 2 months 3. Human, mage, fire/frost spec 4. I started playing cause I've lost a bet with my friend. We agreed, that whoever loses will have to play the opponent's favuorite MMO for 2 months. My was EvE, his was WoW. After 2 months I've gladly stopped playing that game and returned to EvE 5. 1st, It's not all about grinding here. In WoW, all you do is grind. Kill mobs, kill mobs, kill mobs to get higher level. Got max level? Great! Then kill mobs, kill mobs, kill mobs.. oh, and kill more mobs to get better gear. Then you create second character and you have to repeat everything. In EvE, even if you don't feel like flying around, killing people or harassing them, you still get your precious skill points. Also it's somewhat more difficult/challenging than WoW, and I like it. And the community in EvE is so much better. While playing WoW, I was feeling like surrounded by a bunch of angry kids whose only goal in life was to get max level/top gear. And I love space climates. Star Wars, Stargate, Homeworld, EvE.. FTW! ---- "Bo wszystkie terytoria należą do pięknego złego Należą do Szatana, pana świata tego" |

1. All day 2. Beta of vanilla till end of WOTLK 3. 12 lvl 80 characters, main would have been Blood Elf Paladin before they got gay. 4. The progressive dumbing down of the game led to the point that I could smash my face against my keyboard and top the DPS chart. 5. Eve doesn't suck. -------------------------------------------

1. Started right after the South Park episode, although that wasnt the reason I started. I had bought a few games and every single one was a dud. I was standing in the game isle and said "I want something that I can sit down and play for a long time." As an ex SWG player (I knew what I was getting myself into with the whole MMO idea) and fan of Blizzards series, I picked it up.
2. Three years with a few breaks in that time.
3. Undead, Rogue, Assassination/Sublety
4. I found EVE during my WoW kick and kinda jumped between each one. When Cata came out (didnt even buy it) the changes that came before Cata completely turned me off. Everything was dumbed down even farther than it already was. I didnt like the fact that you could no longer put points into whatever tree you wanted even if it was a fail spec. Really took away some of the "immersion" for me. I never could put it into words but after hearing my fellow EVE players call WoW a "themepark game" was really the last straw for me. I got tried of the "log ride" (PVE), the Rollercoaster (PVP), or the bench eating ice cream (Standing in Orgrimmar.) Plus, the inability to solo in the game got to me. I do like to run with people occasionally but really, I prefer running solo or with a few select friends. In WoW you couldnt progress in any notable manner on your own or without X amount of people. I will never return.
5. EVE is an entirely different experience. I love the fact that you can interact with anyone in the universe and the game is so deep even though Ive been playing for a few years I still dont claim to know much about the game. I still learn something new just about every day. Plus, you gotta love spaceships :D

1. About 2006-2010. 2. Close to 4 years. 3. Undead rogue. Every spec imaginable, but mostly Assassination. 4. It was literally the same thing over and over and over... Also, The grossly unbalanced PvP, and rampant stupidity amongst the developers (I'm looking at you Ghostcrawler*). 5. I chose EVE because I like the challenge and the depth. Also, the myriad of choices definitely helped to persuade me.
*Seriously, **** Ghostcrawler.

I used to play it seriously (as in, the game that held my attention) three years back or so. I still play it a bit on the side with EVE (mainly because I'm loving just exploring all the shiny new maps with cataclysm) Left because raiding got boring, drama got ugly, and because internet spaceships.
I played druid. Resto and feral dps. (I was feral before it was cool to be feral dps /hipster)

1&2 2 years from EU launch to BC
3. Undead priest lvl 60 and a blood elf paladin lvl 63 4. Raid changes from 40man to 20 & 10 combined with some more grind, so I figured "I guess now I've seen it all this game has to offer". 5. Why not, my other choice was Anarchy Online that no one played any more and I hadn't my self since WOW launch ?

1. when I was unemployed. 16 months, Oct 2008-April 2010ish 2. about 7-8 months 3. dwarf/belf, pally, 100% prot, both times 4. got a job, got burned out on the grind, got to 80 not in a guild 5. been playing eve since 2003, played wow for a bunch of different reasons.
easier to pick up and put down. very definite sense of progress and direction if you want it. it actually has a story buried in it somewhere. to be fair, it is fun. mindless, button mashing, gear hoarding, fun.
no matter what anyone says, there is a certain amount of joy in tanking. cause when it all goes wrong and you still pull it off, that is when you really appreciate it. no shame. no hate. it's all just fun and games.
