Have you ever seen this:
Infinity-Quest for Earth
These planetary physics and space/atmospheric flight dynamics if intergrated into Eve you really make the game far closer to the ultimate sci-fi experience you have been championing for no?
Have you seen or heard of this game engine before?
If so have you dismissed the idea or plan on a better one yourselves?

That style of engine would not work with EVE at all. Since EVE is more of a point to point control style where as to use infinity engine would need a flight sim to fully utilize it.
So no

infinity has been around for so long they have to keep recatching up with 3d advances
seems to be typical of what happens when you put programmers in charge of product development instead of money grabbing glory boys
too much perfection not enough releasing

Which is more true since they actually scrapped the idea of releasing a MMO and are working on perfecting the engine(prob to sell).

To try and mash together the infinity engine and EVE as it stands would be harder and a lot more time consuming than simply starting over again.
They would be better starting EVE II from the ground up based on the infinity engine.
This is what's going to happen anyway. Just you wait and see

That sounds like a flight simulator engine. EvE is more like a Turn Based Strategy game where players queue their actions and then they wait for the lag to clear to see who won.

Infinity looks great. Too bad it, like Elite IV, is vapor-ware.

You have to consider the issue with how the server will have to handle the multiple computations that come with a simulator-like behavior. Imagine how much strain the server will have when 30,000-50,000 players are using this system at once. That will be a pain in the ass.

I don't know how difficult that would be, there's generally a server per system so its more like 1000-5000 worst case. I agree that it would be considerably more intensive, but surely a mix of this and eve would be a good thing.
I'm in no way suggesting dropping eve combat for twitch based combat, but the planetary rings and atmospheric interaction could at least be incorporated.
The newtonian physics however would really have to wait for Eve II (NEVER!)
Infinty itself however does look like vapoware...then again Duke Nukem is out soon.

There is an MMO in heavy development at the moment that has newtonian physics by a company based in Ontario, Canada, and no before it gets trolled, it isn't Infinity. __ Gothie <3 |

Hmm, what I'd really like is some good old fashioned Icelandic Viking-ism. Take all these new engines and design features and cram them into eve. Making some sort of monsterous mega sim with pew for all.
I'll never leave but sometimes I watch my ship slow down and wish for more realism.

wow, that looks awesome! this is what i thought eve would be like.
don't get me wrong i like eve, but there is just something about actually flying/landing yourself. Elite style.
